British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch is missing after the sinking of a superyacht off the coast of Sicily, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC.
The sources, who preferred not to be named due to the sensitivity of the situation, said that Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, was confirmed as having been rescued.
The superyacht, called the Bayesian, capsized at around 5 a.m. local time while anchored off the coast of Porticello, a small fishing village located in the province of Palermo in Italy, according to various media reports. The vessel was reportedly struck by an unexpectedly violent storm.
At least one man has died and six others were reported missing, while 15 people were rescued including a 1-year-old baby, NBC News reported, citing local officials.
The yacht “suddenly sank” most likely “due to the terrible weather conditions,” the City Council of Bagheria said, according to NBC.

Apparently, rogue waves can indeed occur in the Mediterranean!
Regards,
My mother told me that my first time on a boat was at the age of 6 weeks.
Ok then. To each their own.
Why?
The superyacht, called the Bayesian, capsized at around 5 a.m.
To be precise, he was flirting with Bayesian statistics.
Regards,
...Christopher Morvillo, who helped Lynch win acquittal at a recent trial, and his wife are missing. Morvillo, a former federal prosecutor, worked on high-profile corruption cases...
We are.

Similar boat rents for $241,000 per week. perini is not going to like the publicity. Sailboats are made to survive knockdowns and many do. including turning turtle. Ya have to keep the hatches closed when underway tho.
check out SV Delos. https://svdelos.com/
Perini Navi is not cheap and with proper crew batting down hatches ect. should have survived a knockdown.
That thing looks like it would tip over just sitting there.
That’s why it has a keel.
She was built to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) ✠A1, Yachting Service, AMS, ACCU classification society rules, and is MCA Compliant.
Large mono-hull sailboat capsizes and sinks at anchor. Sounds unlikely to me…
The righting moment on that is crazy strong.
I live about half an hour from where that boat went down. There wasn’t any violent weather or a storm of any kind at that time at my house. I have a weather station - the log says the winds were averaging ~5 mph this morning with a gust of 10 mph. Weird.
It’s confining for the infant, who isn’t even capable of appreciating the experience, and work for the adults.
We were extremely involved parents, but I would never want to drag an infant along on a cruise.
Honestly, I don’t know why I would have to explain this. It’s common sense.
Another report says it got hit by a WATER SPOUT
Cool. Someone got the reference.
What are Bayesian statistics used for? Predicting vote outcomes? Predicting climate change?
