On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Source,” Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) wouldn’t say if he backs 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris’ “federal ban on price gouging on groceries” proposal because “The devil’s in the details.” And “where do you end this? What are the details like? How do you define price gouging? That will be something that we’ll have to work through.”
Host Kaitlan Collins asked, “On that economic plan, do you support a federal ban on price gouging on groceries?”

Someone needs to go on TV with a flowchart of how food gets on your table.
The farmers
The chemicals and machinery and loans
The truckers
The food processors
The truckers
The warehouses
The fuel
The electricity
The supply chain workers
And then the Supermarkets
With their 1.6% profit margins
And then Kamala can explain how that 1.6% is the problem and how that needs to be strictly controlled so that prices can be dramatically lowered.
The Demonicrat wants a bribe from Kamalamadingdong where she sends some of the money she gouges to his own district, especially where he can have access to it.
Harris has no plan. My guess is that she has no intention of doing anything. Her base doesn’t care.
Is there price gouging in professional athletics to keep player’s salaries so ridiculously high?
Funny. He’s never needed details or facts for virtually anything else he supports . . .
Profit margin for grocery stores is ≈ 1.6% - where is the price gouging?
Of course the likes of Kaitlan Collins do not have to worry about stretching grocery dollars like the rest of us, which price controls will make far far worse.
Hannity referred to it last night as price “gauging.” Over and over and over...I thought someone would speak in his earpiece and correct him but didn’t happen. He was like Biden reading something someone else wrote without correcting it!!
Need more details he said as he extended a hand expecting to receive a gratuity for his insight and wisdom…
THERE NEEDS TO BE A LAW:
NO ONE CAN BE ANY LEVEL OF POLITICIAN UNLESS THEY HAVE SUCCESSFULLY RUN A PRIVATE BUSINESS.
THERE ARE NO ISSUES.
How can there be at $36T debt?
There is drain the swamp and build the wall.
Here is what is going on with the Dems. They know there are no minds to be changed. They have to aim at turnout — turnout of their far left wing.
This is not bizarre. There have been several articles about how many millions of gun owners do not register and vote. Presumably, the Lara Trump RNC will be registering aggressively at gun shows. So the Dems are not doing anything different than the GOP as far as choosing to drive turnout from groups already in their corner, rather than concern themselves with “appealing to the middle”.
There are no minds out there to change. You have to drive turnout. So they will go hard left wing and KNOW, know 100%, that there is no one who hates Trump (99% of their voters) who will hate him less no matter what their economic plan says. They are hunting for those who they can drag from Cornell West or RFK.
There is a lot of talk on FR about how Trump needs to stay issues oriented. That’s just silly. There are no minds left to change. He has to Drain the Swamp and Build The Wall because that’s where the disaffected Independents can be gathered who otherwise don’t vote.
Note that turnout is usually 67ish%. There are many votes out there in that reservoir to chase.
Hannity was mocking Harris, because in her speech she misspoke and pronounced “gouging” as “gauging.”
Dan Goldman is a real snake. Nothing good about him. His quotes should not be posted. People might think of him as a ‘moderate’ or even one of us.
They raided Medicare to fund their plans.
Biden Raided Medicare to Pay for EV Tax Credits, Now He’s Scrambling to Prevent Drug Price Spike
Remember when the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ was supposed to, ya know, reduce inflation? It was a stealth backdoor attempt to push Green New Deal policies under the guise of lowering costs. One of the things it did was take money from Medicare Part D (the part that deals with prescription medications) to give wealthy people tax credits if they bought electric vehicles.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I see three different terms being used lately, Price Gouging, Price Fixing, and Price Controls. If I understand this correctly, this is an effort at instituting price controls by government.
Does any see a problem with the definitions as follows:
Price Gouging: The act of a single individual or organization raising prices to exploit a situation, such as a hotel in a disaster area jacking up its prices for a room, or a water vendor hiking prices in a draught.
Price Fixing: A group of people, often multiple different companies, who collaborate to set the price of something a certain way. This might be akin to several oil companies with business in one area taking to each other to set a base price for a gallon of gas, so both win out.
Price Controls: This is government intervening to set prices, not to be below or above a certain level across an industry. Rent control is an example of this, as are oil and gas price controls as enacted by the Nixon Administration.
Do I have these terms correctly defined, at least generally?
Of all of these, the most destructive are, IMO, government imposed price controls. These cause shortages and increases in prices through black markets. Price controls have never, ever, ever worked anywhere, and are the reason for the gas crunch in the Seventies, and the inability of people to get housing in areas like Manhattan where Rent control policies have changed the dynamic.
Price fixing would be serious as well, but not on the same scale.
Price gouging by individuals in a tight situation (such as a natural disaster) is part and parcel of human nature. This has been going on as long as man has walked the earth.
you will sell at a loss
now make/buy more stuff
there is a reason why the milk and bread are in the far back corner of a grocery
they are low margin items
you have to pass the high margin items to get to them
so milk and bread will be the first to become scarce
The price-gouging crap is not really about economics, though it would have ruinous consequences. It is about CONTROL. How could “price-gouging” be identified without an enormous bureaucracy monitoring every conceivable aspect of production, distribution, marketing, wages, salaries, benefits, insurance, “reasonable profit”, investment decisions, etc., etc.
This is a proposal for Soviet-style centrally planned and controlled economy, fascist at first, then taken over completely once it failed, for communist dictatorship. Make no mistake — Harris is an existential threat to freedom.
once goods become scarce
the govt solution will be to set up govt grocery stores
available only to loyal party members
WOW - I didn’t know that. Needless to say I didn’t hear any speech she gave....She really said, “gauging?” I wonder if it’s painful to be so dumb....she should have stayed at McDonald’s. Who knows - she might have worked her way up to dumping the trash eventually.
