The purpose of the incursion is to relieve pressure on the battle lines in the east. They will keep pushing until Russia reacts. It has the additional effect of forcing the Russian to move, making them vulnerable to attack. And in the end it will force Russia to defend its entire border which again they hope will relieve pressure in the east.
How well it works remains to be seen, but that’s the apparent purpose.

Yep. Russia’s population is 4 times the size of Ukraine. I suppose if the Russians really decided to get going, they’ll do the same to the Ukrainians that they did to the Germans in WWII. Give it time, the Russians have played this game before, with Napoleon in the 19th Century and with Hitler in the 20th Century. We’ll see. Meanwhile the death and destruction I’m sure is horrible, and if it ever ends, the taxpayers of the USA will probably get stuck paying for the rebuilding of Ukraine, assuming the Russians don’t make it a satellite, which after all that blood and treasure, probably will. Stupid war, like most. And Zelenskey will escape and live with the billions he’s stolen, probably in Switzerland or some such place. Pathetic. My two cents.
No one expected the Russian Army to be this incompetent. Idiots will think this is a good thing. What it really does is raise the possibility of the use of tactical nukes. Russia is not going to let itself be occupied. I’d love to see Russia defeated, but the consequences are far further reaching than the Zeepers seem to think.
I read recently Russia was quickly moving to a wartime economic footing and elsewhere they were trying to build up a 600,000 man army or something like that. If true I’d expect the Ukraine move is temporary. Time will tell I guess.
