Metro NYC migrant crisis costs will crack eye-popping $5 billion on shelters, security and food — amount could double by 2025 By Carl Campanile and Haley Brown Published Aug. 13, 2024, 8:07 p.m. ET

928 Comments The financial hits from the migrant crisis keep on coming.

New York City has likely surpassed $5 billion in spending on services for migrants — including nearly $2 billion alone on housing the scores of new arrivals flooding into the Big Apple, according to city data.

The eye-popping figures, listed on the city’s online asylum-seeker funding tracker, shows the city overall spent $4.88 billion combined through fiscal years 2023 and ‘24. Based on the rate of spending, the city likely exceeded more than $112 million since the start of the new fiscal year beginning July 1, or will soon, cracking $5 billion.

Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has even projected the cost could double, hitting $10 billion over the three year period ending June 30, 2025.

“This is not a New York City issue or even a United States issue, this is a worldwide issue.”

Send the bill to the United Nations.

When the various previous legal immigrant groups came to NYC how much did they cost the taxpayers?

Italians, Irish, Jews, Russians, Chinese, Dutch, Germans, etc.

My grandfather legally immigrated in 1899 from Denmark. While at Ellis Island he had to show that he had family in Iowa who could guarantee that he would not be a public charge.

Don’t see the point of u
Your comment but, back then you needed a sponsor in most cases to come over.
In addition. They needed to show that they were not infected with some deadly illness. So, they were quarantined.
If you had no proof of various things, you got put back on a ship and sent back.
The slang term WOP, which meant mostly Italian, stood for “without papers” and meant most went back.
The slang term for Jewish was the Yiddish for circle.
Those who had a sponsor, had an easy time of it.

They never see it as paid by people working.....they see it as government free.

If they arrange for illegals and immigrants votes counting we may very well b outnumbered with the hoards still coming in and racing to the border before the election.

BTW....Harris is running not for our country but the hoards coming in.

Section 1324 title 8 makes it a federal felony to encourage illegals to live here. That means no freebies.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1324

(A)Any person who—

(iv)encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law; or
(v)
(I)engages in any conspiracy to commit any of the preceding acts, or
(II)aids or abets the commission of any of the preceding acts,
shall be punished as provided in subparagraph (B).

(B)A person who violates subparagraph (A) shall, for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs—

(iv)in the case of a violation of subparagraph (A)(i), (ii), (iii), (iv), or (v) resulting in the death of any person, be punished by death or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, fined under title 18, or both.
