Kellyanne Conway presses Trump for ‘fewer insults’ in bid for ‘winning formula’
The Washington Examiner ^ | 08/13/2024 | Emily Hallas

Former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway joined the chorus of GOP strategists who want former President Donald Trump to change his tone on the campaign trail.

Conway told Fox Business anchor Larry Kudlow during an interview on Monday that her former boss needs to adapt his rhetoric to produce a “winning formula” against Vice President Kamala Harris.

“The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see,” Conway proclaimed. “It’s fewer insults, more insights, and that policy contrast.”

The GOP strategist worked closely with Trump for three years before retiring from her role as counselor to the president in August 2020.

If President Trump would just contrast the policies, he’ll win!” Conway added. “Because he has a 2-to-1 advantage over Biden-Harris on the economy and inflation, on the border, on Israel and Hamas, on the key issues that are important to people.”

Conway isn’t the only GOP strategist worried that Trump’s stabs on Harris could detract from his presidential ambitions.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz is among others who have suggested Trump’s “persona” is hurting his campaign.

*** Conway was rumored to have had a fallout with Trump insiders after the former president picked Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to be his running mate. Over a dozen MAGA insiders allegedly accused the former White House counselor of fueling negative press about Vance after the Ohio Republican was launched as Trump’s No. 2.

However, the ex-White House adviser planted herself firmly in the Trump camp during her interview with Kudlow. Deriding Harris for being “afraid” to speak to the media, Conway touted Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and claimed the GOP leader had “the best opportunity” to win the 2024 presidential election.

Kellyann ConnedWeigh. She is right but she shouldn’t be running her mouth off to the media. She DID dump the sweathog.

Interesting that she was responsible for running his winning campaign in 2016, when he did precisely what she’s telling him not to do now. How is that logical?

Take you “advice” and stick it where the sun don’t shine.

You never should have been part of the Trump inner circle in the first place.

You’re married to a slob, an absolute pig who is openly against Trump, so you cannot ever be trusted.

He spent 2 hours talking issues last night. When was the last time commie la talked for 2 hours? So he called them out for their lies. BFD. Every name in the book was used against President Trump. He was even shot! Let’s just use the democrat playbook, oops, the GOPe playbook and throw in the towel now. Better yet, it’s time for some people here to go back to DU.

Notice how they all flock to certain threads to piss out the same liberal talking points?

Actually, she’s not married anymore and hasn’t been for about a year.

I really wish that Trump would stick more to the issues and avoid the personal a bit more.

A lot of his comments get a huge positive reaction from his fans but are a distinct turn off for many voters who don't like his style. Worse than a turn off actually - in some people they evoke a really deep seated antagonistic response.

Trump's biggest negative is that he often spends a bit too much time preaching to the choir to bask in the Amen's when he should be appealing to the remaining persuadable voters he needs to win over to his side.

I can understand his strategy of being provocative to capture the narrative and lead the news cycle, but sometimes he seems to carry it a bit too far.

In this, his choice of JD Vance was perfect political pitch.

While Trump can be a bit bombastic and prone to his own unique style of personal communication, JD is one of the most articulate and self possessed communicators I have seen. His command of facts and ability to think on his feet to respond effectively to media hit jobs is very impressive. I think he even beats Kari Lake on this one.

On the other hand, Trump's gut instincts have proven me wrong on this issue way to many times so who knows...

I think Kellyanne Conway is a bit too focused on demographics and probably having a woman on the ticket (and perhaps having a personal ally in the VP slot) as part of out identity politics obsessed culture.

I really think Tulsi Gabbord was her preferred pick

“She did a damned good job for Trump in 2016, and I think her adivice is politically sound.”

But he’s doing now what he did then and he won. To me, it sounds like she’s sabotaging him — setting him up to fail.

If it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it.

Didn’t read the article, but I think he needs to hit them both ways. I don’t think insulting people should be the main focus. I think the issues are clearly on Trump’s side. He can use the issues to degrade his opponent, because she is clearly horrible when it comes to the issues. I wouldn’t focus on ethnicity or anything like that.

“The main media would like nothing more than to focus only on Trump’s insults, nicknames and jokes”

Which they did, RELENTLESSLY, in 2016. He won.

The reason they don't report on Trump's election-winning policies doesn't matter as the media isn't going to report on his policies anyway. Conway's advice is just another version of the "we're better than this", "this is not who we are" and "well, I never!" losing strategy described brilliantly by Kurt Schlichter in his column a month or two ago which is so often deployed by the Right.

This thinking constitutes a fine, even noble way to live .... when we're not at war with our Republic's enemies, but it cripples us when we are. It causes us to hesitate to do what we must do to preserve our Republic and our Liberty, and it emboldens the enemy by making us appear weak and uncommitted to victory.

The enemies of our Republic understand this completely which is why they sometimes win elections in an America founded on "E Pluribus Unum", on "In God We Trust" and on "Liberty".

Issues: The border, crime, the economy.

Yep, focus on these 3 with some creative marketing from professionals and us TV in the swing states.. Leave the ad libs to the rallies.

She has a point, and it’s something I and many others have a concern about. He needs to cut down on the insults. I didn’t like the way he went after DeSantis either. Stop with the person digs, stick to the issues, and he’ll do even better than he is.
