BRICS can be thought of as a variation on the theme of the old Non-Aligned Movement -- 120 countries (plus 18 observers) which claimed they didn't align with either Cold War super-power block.

BRICS countries total to about 1/2 of the world's population, 1/4 (nominal) to 1/3 (PPP) of the world's GDP, about 1/5 of the world's defense spending.
Around 4% of international trade is done in BRICS currencies, and that is almost entirely the Chinese Yuan.
The remaining 96% of world trade is done in Dollars (US, Canadia, Australian, Singapore), Euros, Japanese Yen and British Pounds.

So, a list of BRICS countries leads to two questions, for starters:

• Which of these countries do you consider to be "US puppet states" and why did you think they were?

• What is different about BRICS today, that you think makes BRICS more threatening to American interests than it was when first formed in 2010?
