Gallego calls Biden administration ‘all talk, no action’ on extreme heat

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), the Democratic nominee for Senate in the Grand Canyon State, excoriated the Biden administration Thursday for what he called insufficient federal support on extreme heat.

Gallego issued the statement the day after Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra called extreme heat a “public health crisis” in Phoenix before meeting with Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D). The Biden administration in July proposed heat protections that would mandate employers provide indoor or shaded rest areas, drinking water and breaks once temperatures surpass 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Once again, the Administration is all talk, no action when it comes to extreme heat in Arizona — calling on Arizonans to do more yet refusing to take an active role or acknowledging the work that Arizona’s federal leaders, including myself, have already done,” Gallego said. “When hurricanes or tornadoes hit, federal officials offer resources, but with heat they just offer advice.”

People in AZ asking for federal help for extreme heat?

Seems less likely than reparations, IMO.

The hubris of these Marxists! Yeah, let’s put a giant umbrella in orbit to block the ‘heat’. Mark Kelly will volunteer.

Dear Ruben,

It’s always been hot in AZ in the summer. Always will be.

Yours truly,

Everyone who has ever paid the slightest bit of attention

Just so happens - This year in Phoenix has been better than last year. Not as much in the way of consecutive 110’s

This one is a complete crock. I have workers working in the sun all day over 100.

I don’t need a federal law to make sure there is plenty of water and gatorade available and I make it mandatory, as in “it’s an ORDER” that if you feel THE SLIGHTEST dizziness or discomfort go sit down in the shade and tell me.

What is more concerning to your average employer is getting sued. So, most employers already do this and Gallego is just trying to curry some votes.

No action on the extreme heat? I know, let’s take everybody’s cars, ACs, guns, homes and food away from them, that ought to help to cool things down.

I really dislike when traditional state nicknames are changed for no good reason. Arizona is the Copper State. The Grand Canyon is a landmark that does not inform the character of the state the way copper mininv did. Connecticut is the Nutmeg State. I am not sure what a Hoosier, Buckeye or Tar Heel is, but they are better nicknames than any replacement could be.

“This one is a complete crock. I have workers working in the sun all day over 100.”

Right now, in south Alabama, the heat index is around 110, according to my thermometer. If you go outside for 5 minutes you will be soaking wet. All across this area there are shipyard workers welding and burning inside of basically steel boxes. They are not dying. Any heat regulation written by some northeast college grad liberal OSHA person would shut down work completely down here if it were followed to the letter.

Your handle indicates where I grew up working outside from age 12-25. First on a dairy, part-time (helping grandparents), later on a survey crew full time. No A/C in the trucks back then. Swamp cooler at the farm. (does little in humid weather as you know). Temps over 100 often, down to 87 at night!

Bring him to northeast PA then. Early August and this is the third day in a row the high temps stay in the mid-60s.

Dear Ruben,

Build a large spaceship, then carve out a ginormous glacier from the Artic Circle and load it up on the spaceship.

Head for the sun and offload ginormous glacier, shooting it at the sun.

Good luck.

I’m all for dems going at each other but give me a break, no one can control the temperature. AZ is hot this time of year. Always has been, always will be.
