The mother of the Las Vegas teen beaten to death by a gang of bullies last year furiously called out the county’s district attorney for allowing her son’s alleged killers to “get away with murder” after it was ruled they would no longer face prosecution as adults.
Mellisa Ready was horrified when she found out the Clark County District Attorney accepted a plea deal on Thursday that would ensure the four teens charged with the death of her son, Jonathan Lewis, would avoid being locked up in an adult prison, 8 News Now reported, citing court documents.
“There is no justice for my son Jonathan Lewis, that was stomped to death and murdered while 20 people stood there and did nothing more than film it and broadcast it to social media,” Ready told the outlet.
Lewis’ alleged killers — Damien Hernandez, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, and Treavion Randolph — were all under 18 when they were formally charged with second-degree murder in connection to the 17-year-old’s death.
However, the plea deal will allow all four teens to plead guilty as juveniles to manslaughter.
“We were able to evaluate all the evidence as a whole and reach this mutually beneficial negotiation,” the attorney for Gianni Robinson, Robert Draskovich, told 8 News Now.
“Obviously, what occurred is a tragedy, but convicting these young men of murder would be a second tragedy, following the first.”
Lewis, a Rancho High School student, was brutally beaten by a mob of his peers in an alley near his school on Nov. 1. He died from blunt force trauma in the hospital six days later.
Lewis was attacked when he allegedly got into a fight over a set of wireless headphones, which were stolen from one of his friends, but then was pounced on by multiple teens.

We had a junior high school near us, that had the following
policy. If a student was caught doing something they shouldn’t
be doing, they would be disciplined. If they ran right to
the Counselor’s office and confessed guilt, and that they
were sorry, the incident would be sealed, no discipline.
Parents would not be notified.
They kids would game this system.
The school officials became aware of some very bad
information and refused to tell parents about it.
It would have involved prison time for some of the
players.
Sounds as if something twisted like that is going on here.
It circumvents young kids having to face up to the
penalties for what they did.
Of course the school officials are so convinced that they
are god of the universe, that they have no tinge of
conscience at all.
Won’t be long before that becomes reality.
The deal-makers will be included, hopefully.
This sounds like the plot to the movie Law Abiding Citizen.

No. What occurred was not a tragedy. It was an atrocity.

No. If in fact it would be a tragedy, it would be the first tragedy. Doesn’t necessarily mean, though, they should not be convicted of murder, just because it would be a tragedy. If justice requires it, that’s what should happen.
The prosecutor does not fear any repercussion. That’s the problem here. The real tragedy.
The guilty protected, the innocent taken away from loved ones.

She should sue the county and perpetrators for conspiracy to deny civil rights.
If this was four whites brutally murdering a black they would already be doing time in an adult for murder.

Definitely federal civil rights prosecution. The federal laws were written to deal with KKK atrocities in which the perps would be shielded by pro-Klan prosecutors, and by pro-Klan jurors if the case went to trial.
