It is rather interesting that the Vietnemese seem to harbor no real animosity against the US and have sought closer ties. Suspect they are just practical and realistic.

Well, that’s nice. The Vietnamese get a good deal. Lockheed Martin will make money. And the US officials negotiating things will get cushy consulting jobs after they retire.

The Vietnamese don’t need these planes. the country is not that big. Rather they are going to use the planes as models to build their own planes and sell them on the world market as direct competitors to the US planes...—at a much lower price.
