Tennessee Libertarian Chair Voices Opposition to National Ticket, Will Support Alternate Ticket
Independent Political Report ^ | July 24, 2024 | Jordan Willow Evans

Posted on 07/24/2024 1:30:56 PM PDT by Angelino97

Libertarian Party of Tennessee Chair Josiah Baker wrote on Tuesday that he opposes the Libertarian Party presidential ticket of Chase Oliver and Mike Ter Maat, and is instead endorsing an alternate ticket of Clint Russell and Josie Glabach.

In an opinion article shared via the Libertarian Party of Tennessee’s X account, Baker expressed his belief that the Libertarian ticket of Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat does not align with the values and goals of the LPTN. He cited several primary reason for his opposition to the campaign, including his view that Oliver is a weak advocate for the Second Amendment, past comments Oliver made regarding the Libertarian Party and “Ron Paul-esque libertarians,” his past promotion of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and his views on puberty blockers and gender-affirming care for minors, among other issues.

According to Baker, these positions have hindered the Libertarian Party of Tennessee’s efforts, including ongoing collaborations with a liberty-minded Republican candidate on supporting potential legislation and a ballot access lawsuit, which Baker claims has come to a halt due to the Libertarian Party being tied to the Oliver campaign and its views on gender-affirming care.

“I have said all the above to clearly establish the fact that I, in good faith, will not and cannot support this Oliver/Ter Maat ticket as the Chairman of LPTN,” Baker wrote. “I cannot and will not support actively undermining our efforts to spread liberty through local, statewide, and cultural efforts. I must do what protects our productive work in our state and what assists our continued growth in both numbers and influence.”

Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat should form the Libertine Party. That’s really what they are.

I think they nominated a ticket. A frequent Twitter poste called The Redheaded Libertarian says that she was nominated by LPTN for VP.

Right after the LP convention, ter Maat updated his Twitter bio but made a typo calling himself the VP candidate of the “Libertan” Party. Maybe Oliver and ter Maat can run on that ticket.

Back in 1999 when I was a member of the Libertarian party and living in Tennessee, I’d bump into the state party chairman every now and then as we lived in the same town. He kept a pocket copy of the Constitution with him and seemed pretty conservative in his views.

Oh dear. The liberaltarians are having a tiff.

Maybe they should smoke a bowl and relax.

It’s not like anyone takes them seriously anyway.

Why not vote for Trump rather than waste your time.

3/7 of Libertarian Party delegates voted for None of the Above rather than Oliver. IOW, they would rather have had NO nominee (and lose ballot access) than nominate Oliver.

One of the people who has criticized Oliver for his support for transitioning kids is the Tennessee LP VP candidate.

Yep, that was before 9/11 when the pacifist schism forced Conservatives back to the Republican Party.

Good for them.“

Nope, they are hacked because their nominee is more likely to suck away rat votes for a change.

the colorado libertarians have already done the same thing: they eschewed the “official” libertarian candidate and endorsed RFKJ instead ...

I follow Clint and Josie on Twitter. They’re pretty sensible libertarians, pretty much the Ron Paul wing, Mises Caucus types. Josie appears on the Timcast podcast. (She posts as “The Redheaded Libertarian.”

3/7 of their delegates voted for None of the Above against Oliver. That would have left them with no nominee.

A substantial portion of the LP finds Oliver/ter Maat unacceptable. I think it’s transitioning kids. I know that one of Josie Glabach’s objections to them.

I would vote for these two before I’d vote for Oliver.

In New Mexzico, the state LP also refused to put the Oliver/ter Maat ticket on their line, so the national LP petitioned to get the “Free New Mexico Party” on the ballot.

I sort of feel sorry for Angela McArdle, the LP National chair. Her views seem more in line with Russell/Glabach, but as chair, she has to support the Oliver ticket.

I’d read that...

So much promise in that Party... So little ability to STAY ON TASK and present a coherent message.

Once Harry died, Claire bowed out, Vin went in to hiding, and L Neil died... It just hasn’t been the same.

As previously stated by another poster, they’ve become “commie-lite” libertines rather than principled freedom advocates.
