Black American heritage should matter. Harris is of Indian and Jamaican heritage, so like Obama, while her ancestry is half-African, her African ancestors were not enslaved black Americans freed by civil war and Republican President Lincoln. I think it’s important to distinguish between blacks who are descendants of US African slaves from blacks of non-US African ancestry. I am sad to think that as with Obama “color” blinds ideological distinctions and real ideas are dismissed as important. It seems to me that true reparation for slavery would be having black president of black American descent.
