Kremlin says proposed 'European Defence Union' is sign of EU's militarisation

The Kremlin said on Thursday that pledges by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to create "a true European Defence Union" if she won a second term spoke to the mood in Europe towards militarisation and confrontation.

In a document setting out her programme ahead of a European Parliament vote on granting her another term, Von der Leyen said the effort would include flagship projects on air and cyber defence over the next five years.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the document reflected von der Leyen's "changing priorities" and said her proposals gave a "military colouring" to the European Union.

Peskov told reporters that her proposal "confirms the general attitude of European states to militarisation, escalation of tension, confrontation and reliance on confrontational methods in their foreign policy."

“And still can not expel Russia from Ukraine.

We could if we got in it. Even with our Biden weakened military we can still crush Russia. It just isn’t worth the cost.

You mean like sending warships through the strait of Taiwan to intimidate a country?

EU + USA is 20 times bigger than Russia’s GDP.
And still can not expel Russia from Ukraine.

We're not really trying to beat Russia. If we did get actively involved, it'd be over quick.

Sure, there is something called nuclear deterrent. Russia may have enough counter attack capabilities if United States got directly involved in a war with Russia and pushed Putin into a corner. May be you do not care, but I definitely do not wish to risk a nuclear exchange for saving borders of most corrupt country in Europe. Neocons would love for US to get involved in a direct war with Russia. That would be great boost to Military Industrial complex in USA.

May be “they” are smart enough to not get involved in a direct war with Russia and risk a nuclear war with Russia.
