For the techies…. On Friday 19 July 2024, Microsoft reported that it suffered a major outage for many Azure services. This affected airlines, banks and media:…

CrowdStrike have already published a patch for Falcon Sensor, and which affects all of CrowdStike’s customers:

Restart Windows and boot into Troubleshooting mode 2. Open a command prompt 3. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike 4. Locate the file matching “C-00000291* sys”, and delete it. 5. Continue normal startup Overall, it looks like the Falcon Sensor bug caused Azure services to glitch, and which caused many systems around the world to fall-over.

I’’ve been telling people for a long time that cloud computing is a really bad idea - especially in a world where unlimited storage is dirt cheap

Azure services

~~~
Big brother.
It’s not enough to sell an operating system.
Everyone MUST have a microsoft identity now to run windows.
Why do banks and airlines need to be spied on by bill gates and have exploits in their OS?
My former employer went with CS. It was a welcome change from the abysmal McAfee.
Knowing CS was tied to unsavory types, I never trusted it.
MS made things worse with that concept.
Up until a few months ago to put a W11 box on the domain, it wasn’t a big deal to use a bogus account and password to make 11 revert to allow a local system account.
Now sign on with a work account on a fresh machine for Azure and go through a few hoops to release from Azure to get into Active Directory. So frustrating.
Go Linux!
If your Windows 10 or 11 computer runs only Windows Defender, you’re not affected. There was a bug in the software update to CrowdStrike Falcon software that caused the Windows crashes.
It’s obnoxious. Large corporations have IT departments who can roll out an OS install from an image, and have a lot of their systems and policies cooked right in.
Small businesses have to jailbreak the OOBE just to make a local account and then set up the domain user.
I prefer linux but it’s not ideal for business.
Microsoft got this idea from Apple. Push cloud services as an excuse to force an authenticated identity. In fact, Apple had it baked right in to their devices because you have to log into your apple account to install apps.
That makes Microsoft jealous with envy, which is why they are now no longer happy to just force you to use a microsoft account to use their OS, but they are pushing two factor authentication to get everyone’s phone numbers and further aggregate their spy data.
My daughter's an OR nurse. Her hospital's sytems were down when she began her 12-hour shift. All operations were on hold.
She just told me things are back up.
