No rain here today. It was mostly cloudy and very humid. I was at the Republican women’s tent all afternoon, outside the polling place, for early voting. HAD to jump in the shower immediately when I got home. They SAY tomorrow won’t be as muggy and I hope they’re right because I’ll be at the tent again.
Any rain will be pop-up showers.

Ugh. It must have been miserable there! I hope it’s more comfortable tomorrow. Hard to stay in a good mood under those heat/humidity conditions. LOL!

July 19

Brokenness that Blesses

Bible in a Year :

We have this treasure in jars of clay.

2 Corinthians 4:7

His back is hunched, and he walks with a cane, but his many years of spiritual shepherding are evidence that he leans on God—the source of his strength. In 1993, the Reverend William Barber II was diagnosed with a debilitating disease that causes the vertebrae of the spine to fuse together. In a not-so-subtle way, he was told, “Barber, you probably gonna need to figure out another thing to do besides pastoring, because the church ain’t gonna want [someone disabled] to be their pastor.” But Barber overcame that hurtful comment. God has not only used him as a pastor, but he’s also been a powerful, respected voice for underserved and marginalized people.

Though the world may not fully know what to do with those with disabilities, God does. Those who value beauty and brawn and things that money can buy can miss the good that accompanies uninvited brokenness. The rhetorical question of James and the principle underneath it are worth considering: “Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?” (James 2:5). When health or strength or other things are reduced, one’s faith needn’t follow suit. By God’s strength, it can be the opposite. Our lack can be a catalyst to trust Him. Our brokenness, as was the case with Jesus, can be used of Him to bring good to our world.

Reflect & Pray

In what ways are you weak or broken? How can your weakness be used as an asset to encourage others?

Father, please help me to bring You honor despite my weaknesses.

It was fairly windy and that helped. Felt good when clouds covered the sun because it was cool but when the sun was out, it was a hot, sticky wind. Tomorrow will be as warm and I hope there’ll be wind again.

Howdy, Kathy.
LOL One of those days? Or just distracted by the big party in Milwaukee like the rest of us? :-)

Whatever it takes not to be sticky, I hope that’s what you get.

I just went outside, and though it’s only 82, we have 52% humidity, so we are getting a small taste of what you have.

Oooh, it was sticky even with the wind today. I don’t know if we’ll get the humidity drop tomorrow since it’s 75% now. Yuck.
Your 52% must feel pretty wet since you aren’t used to that kind of humidity.

It felt...well...humid, but not overbearing. It did feel warmer that it should have because of it, though.

You know what that’s all about. I just hope the high humidity doesn’t spoil the cooler temps for you.

A very pleasant good Saturday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Beach for this morning's thread.

Outstanding job by the hygienist at the dentist yesterday, take a look at this:

Yesterday at Chisolm Trail Park:

The nice thing is your skin shouldn’t feel so stretched and dry tonight. :-)

Our temps aren’t exactly cool. Just upper 80s to 90 or so rather than upper 90s. Still hot but it’s where we should be this time of year. With rain chances every day, it’s going to be on the sticky side. The chances are better in this part of the state than farther north and that’s a good thing. Down here is where drought conditions are.

Looks like you and Gizmo had a fun outing yesterday. Covered quite a bit of ground.

I sure hope the chances are better there where you are. How are the crops? Did the corn survive? Are the soybeans still alive?

We’re in the area with the best chances but chances are aren’t super high. They pick up more next week though.

The corn is done. Even with regular rainfall, now is when it usually starts dying anyway. The beans across the road are looking surprisingly good. They’ve survived well on the dewfall we get and when we get a little rain, they bush out a little more. I haven’t looked to see if they’re putting out bean pods yet but it’s about time. If we can get rain more often now, he should get a decent crop. Planting late might have worked out to his benefit. I hope so. He works so hard.

Yes, those guys are hard workers and deserve a good crop. Hope you get that rain.

Guess I’ll finish up this show and go to sleep. My allergies are getting to me, too, so I might have to take something or drown. LOL! See ya tomorrow!

The guy across the road works a little harder than others because he doesn’t have equipment really large enough for all the land he works. It takes longer to plant and harvest. Dusty has much larger equipment and knocks fields out a lot faster, but he also owns or rents several thousand acres all over the county.
Both are hard-working men, as are the other farmers.

I had my sinuses pretty calmed down from being outside all afternoon, then remembered I hadn’t watered the potted plants outside. *sigh* Now I’m blowing in hopes of clearing them out again so I can get some sleep. Time to get the cats fed now and hit the sack so I won’t kill the alarm clock when it goes off. Gotta get up a little early again.

Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow.

Now THAT’s a long drive! Are you actually driving?
Yes, but not all at one time.
Going to do overnighters on the going and returning.

Oh WOW, Piper is going to college.
Refresh my memory: was she born the same year as one of mine?
Trying to remember which two we spoke about way back when.

Good morning, night owl ((HUGS))

Multi-talking is not doing well tonight. Too many things to watch and listen to...

Totally understand.
