BETHEL PARK, Pa. – Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old would-be assassin who opened fire on former President Donald Trump's Pennsylvania campaign rally Saturday, hid the weapon in advance, according to a Secret Service source.
It was not immediately clear where he hid it, however. By the time agents spotted him on the roof, he was already holding it.
"We went from golf range finder to AR-15, and now we have to fill in the gap," the source told Fox News

He didn’t get in. The building whose roof he fired from was outside the security perimeter. He didn’t need to go through the security checkpoint to reach it.
AR-15s break down into upper and lower. The upper half is 24-26” long. It will fit in a backpack. He had a backpack.
So when did they label him as suspicious? There was a report that said that the distance finder was caught in the checkout but they couldn’t stop him from coming in because it wasn’t considered contraband but he was labeled as suspicious.
But then, the story has been changing all along so who knows what really happened.
When they saw him alright the checkpoint with the distance runner then walk away, they thought that was suspicious, and radioed an alert, but lost track of him in the crowd.

The officer’s noticed Crook when he arrived in the area outside the checkpoint, using a range finder.
They thought this was suspicious and put out a radio alert telling everyone to keep an eye out, but when they tried to follow him they lost him in the crowd.
He never attempted to pass through the checkpoint.
Next report I’ve seen was an officer who saw him on the roof, with the rifle. The building he was on was outside the security perimeter, and he could approach it without passing through the checkpoint.

About 2 years after JFK was killed, I was in a Navy Reserve unit finishing up my contract re service/duty.
The unit was a Navy SecGrp, and I had just received my TS Crypto Clearance.
Later, at a small welcome beer session, I joked that now I might find out who killed JFK.
Our CPO, also my mentor, laughed and said “Even My grandkids would never know, who really killed JFK!”
I replied that my wife was 5 months pregnant with our first child.
The CPO laughed and again said that no one I knew or will know, would live long enough to know who really killed JFK Even unborn grandkids!

Ironically, that happened in the DC area.
Flash forward to this decade where an adult grandkid on each coast recently got a TS clearance.
Both asked my question and got the same basic answer re their grandkids, they don’t have yet.
