The U.S. Secret Service said Wednesday that it stood by its female agents and was appalled by some of the criticism they’ve received on conservative social media since Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The Secret Service, in a statement to NBC News, said that the criticism from pundits and influencers was baseless. The agency also stood by its commitment to diversity in recruiting as helping, not hurting, the effectiveness of its protective teams.
The statement follows a multiday campaign of derision by some conservatives who accused Kimberly Cheatle, the Secret Service director, of being unqualified and who said that female agents assigned to Trump hadn’t been physically capable of protecting him. Some critics said the Secret Service should return to being all-male, which it hasn’t been since 1970.

Well, The America people are "appalled" at the Secret Service for its incompetence and dereliction of duty in this matter...
Like this!
Nothing can take the cool male in-charge behavior under fire and implant it in the females. The videos tell it all. You see females recoiling, hesitating, and fearful.
Nothing can add a foot of height to the short female in front of Trump who left Trump’s head exposed. The still photo tells that story.
Who should we believe? Our eyes in the photos and videos? Or the pro-DEI people saying “nothing to see here.”
When you f up on live TV, you cannot hide your negligence.
Which means you are still too stupid to understand.
Almost as appalled as most of us were by the incompetence of the USSS and its director.
SS women were prominent during the Butler fiasco. The SS director with questionable qualifications and experience sponsored by Dr Jill is a woman. Was the site commander a woman? That would be the straw that broke the DEI camel’s back.
and we’re appalled at their complicity in the plot to assassinate president Trump.
I agree that DEI is undermining our country.
It is like a cancer. However, the apparent collusion of the Feds in the assassination attempt is the equivalent of a car wreck. In a car wreck with injuries, you don’t prescribe chemotherapy but immediate attention to the injuries even if a car wreck victim has cancer.
Just watching that woman trying to holster her sidearm - and failing repeatedly - tells me all I need to know about DEI. Obviously not qualified for that position.
Was the person that coordinated Trump’s protection at the venue last Saturday a DEI hire also? I mean, how else could one explain leaving an obvious shooting position wide open within 150 yards of the President, especially after so many warnings?
Personally, I think something more sinister was taking place - stupidity was the cover for the attempted assassination. The SS was in on it.
Appalled about DEI criticism. Ok.
Appalled Trump was shot? Not so much.
They acted like Keystone Kops and they’re appalled. Too bad they aren’t black, they could get away with the disrespect angle.
You are correct and it starts at the top, which includes Alejandro Mayorkas & Kimberly Cheatle. Both of whom are DEI picks for their positions. I assume you know that DHS has control over Secret Service and that is why I include Alejandro Mayorkas.
Secret Service had one job just one, to keep Trump safe, and they failed. That’s what’s appalling.
Don’t you just want to grab them by their cute little pony tails and fling their head into the SUV?
Don’t get Al raggy now, SS.
They’re not appalled by their spectacular failure, though.
This shows one of the reasons why they had that spectacular failure.
They aren’t focused on their duty.
This is probably NOT the opinion of the rank and file Secret Service.
Two of those women were jokes. One of them was not, she had the courage and loyalty needed she just didn’t have the height. It would be the same it she had been a man, too short is too short. Perfect to guard the first family, it’s not as glamorous but it’s really important
