Do you agree with Home Depot’s decision to fire this woman for what she said about Trump?

The 'customers' they will lose are not paying customers. A win-win.
I feel bad for her the way one feels bad for an idiot.
Does she deserve to lose her job? She wasn’t posting this stuff AT work.
This all got started at some level under W. The worst sort of stuff was said about him, and he never responded, nor his people. Letting that go unaddressed was a huge mistake by him and Republican leadership.
You still don’t realize the way the Left plays the game. I’m all for fairness, but that’s a 2-way street.
Yes, although I believe in free speech, when you are on duty and in uniform, have the sense to not ‘tarnish the brand’.
Say what you will on your own time, at home, in the street, at Starbux (assuming you’re not an employee in uniform!) but at work, show some discretion when talking to customers!
She’s a liability. I wouldn’t want her working for me. I’m sure it was 100% a decision made by the HD legal department after they weighed the overall liability to the company/shareholders.
Yes, they will.
You can say whatever you want. A company can fire you if they want.
Bernie Marcus is long retired, though I am sure he still has a pile of stock and still wields some influence internally. I doubt he was at all involved in this firing.
I’m acquainted with his stepson, who Bernie raised from around age 10. He’s a good guy, too.
I must have missed you post about Trumpies being fired right and left just for being Trumpies.
“Free Speech” means the government cannot control your speech. Your boss can (if you want to keep your job).
The majority is irrelevant. This is not a Democracy, it's a Republic and we are ruled by the word of law. The Constitution (The law) says we have the inalienable right of free speech. But, Home Depot, being a private company, can fire whom ever they like...or don't like, if that be the case.
Inalienable means just that.! If we allow ourselves to overstep the Constitutional rights of those WE disapprove of, what right would we have to whine when the left (commies) doing the same to us....which they seem to do all the time, with no consequence.. :(
Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. No, she should not be fired no matter how disgusting.
After an initial reaction, I have several thoughts on this and a conclusion.
First, she wasn’t preaching at work: She was confronted.
Second, Libs of Tik Tok are now doxxing leftists who have said what she posted online; I agree with what they are doing.
Third, I agree with the man confronting her.
The problem I have is the guy confronting her at work...unless she was wearing her uniform in a posted video.
Rhetorical: How many FReepers would lose their jobs if their FR history was known to their employers?
Conclusion: I disagree with her being fired on the basis of what was posted here.
That stated, I’d have been tempted to confront her at work, too, all things being equal and under the current atmosphere manufactured by the left, and in consideration of the threat against the Constitution. But she should have been doxxed; I’m sure that many of her neighbors are supporters (hive mind).
One final thought on the latter: Farcebook creates victims by design. The focus should be on zuckerberg for permitting such a vile post given his history against us on the right...something not noted in any comments here that I read.
You made some interesting comments.
You may not be aware but Lowe’s current top Boss had an executive position at THD from 2008 to 2014(if I recall correctly). Lowe’s cleaned up their act alot! BTW, strategically, Lowe’s always seems to build new stores near established THD locations.
Funny story though, went into the Flooring Department at Lowe’s to get a laminate redo quote. Don’t want to go into details but at end the associate gave me Orange Crush bottled soft drink. He said it was a prom thing & free. Odd I thought. Later that week I was in Home Depot for the same quote. I was taken back by how much orange was around!
As I see it, the lady was living in an echo chamber, much like the unhinged people on TikTok. They really believe everyone thinks like they do, especially since the MSM is so dominant and pervasive. She felt perfectly safe to let it rip, thinking everyone would agree… after all, who of us wouldn’t kill Hitler if we had a Time Machine? But here is a difference between her and the unhinged folks on TikTok - she is a mature adult and frankly should know better.
As to the unhinged… they fail to realize the internet is forever. Many of us in our youth did things that today we are ashamed of, but that was pre-Internet where secrets can remain. These kids think everyone agrees with them. They feel perfectly safe in saying such outlandish things. Their comeuppance is nigh.
As to Home Depot - I think they were left in an uncomfortable place. This vet I think may be out of line a little bit, but I get it. We are all emotional on what just happened. First Amendment aside… there are limits. You could also call what she did Hate Speech which is a deplorable term. Confronting her at work rather than engaging her online seems aggressive but if the shoe was on the other foot, it would have been far worse. Like being beaten to death in the parking lot when walking to her car.
I agree - we have to fight back and there will be some unfortunates that will learn a hard lesson. But learn they must. We need to return to civil discourse in our country but in order to get there, we have to teach these lessons.
Kudos to Home Depot. I pray this woman sees the light now.
Yes.
Home Depot has rules about politicking. The dummy should have used a Nom de plume for her savagery.
Most companies have written policies regarding social media interactions of their employees. Some of these policies would seem to infringe on free speech issues but a business’ right to manage their reputation is usually considered to be a reasonable offset.
In this case if she was an HD employee and that was well-known then she needed to restrict her social media commentary to family, g-kids, recipes, and such. Swerving into politics and especially spouting a socially egregious comment like condoning murder would most certainly be legal cause for dismissal.
So, sayonara Toots.
Hopefully she will be an example that causes others with TDS to re-consider what they are about to type on their social media page. You may hate the man with the heat of a nuclear blast but keep it to yourself. Your restraint may keep you employed as well as toning down the rhetoric of today’s politics.
The free speech she enjoys as a natural right does not obligate her employer in any way. The employer has a natural right to hire and terminate people as it sees fit.
No offense to anyone here, but I can scroll through this thread and probably identify -- with pretty strong accuracy -- which Freepers are/were employers and which are not.
