JD Vance's Wife, Usha leaves prestigious law firm after her husband is chosen as Trump's VP
Above the Law ^ | July 16, 2024 | Staci Zaretsky

Like Doug Emhoff before her, another VP pick's spouse has left Biglaw thanks to politics.

"Usha has informed us she has decided to leave the firm. Usha has been an excellent lawyer and colleague, and we thank her for her years of work and wish her the best in her future career."

— A statement given by a Munger Tolles & Olson spokesperson to Bloomberg Law, concerning the recent departure of litigator Usha Chilukuri Vance, in the wake of her husband Sen. J.D. Vance’s selection as Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 election. Usha, a Yale Law graduate who clerked for Judge Amul Thapar (E.D. Kentucky), Judge Brett Kavanaugh (D.C. Circuit), and Chief Justice John Roberts, said in her own statement that in light of the news concerning her husband, she had “resigned from [her] position at Munger, Tolles & Olson to focus on caring for our family.” Her biography has already been removed from the Munger Tolles website.

Yesterday there was a thread which had a discussion on her religion. He became a Catholic and she will attend Mass with him but she has remained Hindu.

The law firm are big donors to Democrats. Forced resignation is probably closer to the truth.

There was a FReeper back a few years ago that claimed Catholics were not Christians.

Still here i think.

They do tend to lump them together. At DU they tend to used names like ‘Taliban’ to denote Christians as they don’t have non muslim vocabularies for their darkest fears.

That is what I read as well but I can’t trust the media so i’ll await more info. Either way it won’t change my vote.

I guess you have never visited India and observed dark skinned Sikhs. My best friend in college was Sikh. And he was quite dark skinned. Nicest person for a friend.

FYI:

While organically related to Hinduism, with the religious philosophy of the Gurus showing both continuity with and reaction against earlier Hindu thought, the Sikh faith is a religion in its own right, with a strong sense of its own identity throughout its existence.[91][92]

If you do some of your own research you’ll finds that she is Hindu.

While a few Sikhs these days emphasize the differences with Hinduism, it didn’t start out that way. For most of their history, they have been deeply connected with Hinduism. In the early days, the eldest son of a Hindu family was made a Sikh and there was an emphasis on the Sikhs being the sword arm of the Hindus against the Muslims. The passage of time has changed a bit of that though many Sikhs & Hindus pray at each others temples/gurudwaras even today.

Hinduism doesn’t follow/insist on any single path so other dharmas (religion is a borrowed term and therefore not the best description of Dharmic paths) like Buddhism & Jainism also have close relationship with Hinduism.

“Did she also call Trump Hitler like her husband did?”

Foe Pete’s sake, he repented. Isn’t that good enough for you? Many people on this forum were suspicious of Trump when he first ran. They said Trump was a Democrat plant and he was going to throw the election because he was friends with the Clintons. I guess you just can’t satisfy some people.

I hadn't thought of this until just now, but another plus for J. D. Vance might be that Usha Chilukuri Vance might have understandings of two Supreme Court Justices she worked for.

Talk about a power couple.

I’m impressed with your knowledge and understanding. Thank you for that.

About 15 years ago I met three Sikhs at a conservative gathering and through business connections got to know one pretty well. He was very conservative and had a good family life, etc. The Sikhs are very security/situational awareness minded and he always carried. They certainly don’t like Muslims.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Sikhs 'believe in' 5 of the 7 deadly sins." Do you mean that they approve of the 5 sins? Or that they recognize they're deadly and do not approve of them?

I am Catholic and have been told Catholics aren’t Christians more times than I can count. And when I was a kid and would go to church (other than Catholic) with friends their parents always told me not to tell anyone I was Catholic. Oh well.
