Embattled Secret Service head Kimberly Cheatle has revealed the fateful reason why her agency failed to position an agent on top of the building that a gunman used to carry out an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Cheatle, who is already facing calls to resign over what some lawmakers are calling a massive security failure, said Secret Service officials planning security for Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania considered the warehouse about 150 yards away from where Trump spoke to be a risky position for stationing an agent.
'That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,' she told ABC News in an interview Tuesday.
'And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside.'
What transpired instead was a security nightmare: Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to scale the building and secure his own position, while law enforcement struggled to locate him even amid pressing warnings from members of the Trump crowd. But there wasn't sufficient time to act on the tips, she explalined.
'The shooter was actually identified as a potential person of suspicion,' Cheatle said. 'Unfortunately, with the rapid succession of how things unfolded, by the time that individual was eventually located, they were on the rooftop and were able to fire off at the former president.'

Total incompetence is revealed when someone gives a reason or excuse that is so far beyond any possibile explanation that they can’t comprehend how stupid it makes them look. IOW, they have no clue about the task that they are charged with.
In the real world if someone gave a “roof” excuse like that at a meeting they would be fired on the spot and escorted off site by security.
Yes, I am aware. However, there are very few people who can make such a shot. There are plenty that could make it from 150 yards or less.
It’s only a matter of time until she becomes the scapegoat for this colossal security failure. If she doesn’t realize that she is considered as disposable by the liberal elites, she’ll be thrown under the bus to protect others that are involved. (Hopefully she is saving receipts…). Her friendship with Jill won’t help her when Joe is no longer the candidate…
I have seen no reports to that effect.
Gateway Pundit at https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/07/trumps-would-be-assassin-spotted-roof-officer-half/ quotes a report by a local news station, saying Crooks was seen on the roof 30 minutes before shots were fired. But when you look at that station’s linked report now it says that he was observed scoping out the roof and it wasn’t sure if he had a rifle.
I don’t know why there is that discrepancy. The news station’s page doesn’t say that the page has been updated.
Sometimes I think changing stories are the way to keep us chasing squirrels.
What we do know is that the best assassin spot there was unguarded and at least 2 counter-sniper teams had their sights on the shooter almost a minute before he shot at Trump but didn’t take him out. And even though there was a live shooter event in process the agents with Trump did NOT hide and protect him.
Why did the bad guys pick this kid?

Was he a good shot? Conflicting reports. Didn’t figure out Trump’s rhythm for movement.
Nobody told him to bring a towel or two for the hot roof?
Do we know if Dad’s rifle had a scope? Wouldn’t the bad guys want one?

You’re not reading that report very carefully. The shooter was seen on the ground, 30 minutes before the shooting, near the entrance, several hundred yards from the roof from which he took the shot.
Officers lost him in the crowd, and an alert went out, and they were looking for him.

No, you’re not understanding what I’m saying. Gateway Pundit linked to a report saying that Crooks was seen ON THE ROOF 30 minutes before the shots were fired. When you look at the page they linked to NOW it doesn’t say that he was reported being seen on the roof. I looked at archive.org and as of 2:39 today the report still said he was seen on the roof, as the report had said from the very beginning when it was posted yesterday (You can see this at https://web.archive.org/web/20240716022359/https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/alleged-trump-shooter-spotted-by-law-enforcement-nearly-30-minutes-before-shots-fired-sources-say/Q6GIK5RP6RBY5PHIMYBNXRTEBI/ )
So that page was changed sometime today (depending on whether archive.org uses Zulu time, or what) to get rid of the claim that he was reported being seen on the roof 30 minutes before the shots. But nowhere on that page does it say that the story was edited, making it seem like this is how it had always been reported and GP mis-reported it. In reality that page quietly changed its claims without noting that it had changed it or why.
These are the things that cause troubles. Did they misrepresent what the sources told them? Or did the narrative change and so they changed their story much like Snopes did with Obama’s birthplace?
Either there was a report of Crooks on the roof 30 minutes before the first shot, or there wasn’t. The records would show that. As of right now we haven’t seen any of the records so we don’t know which claims are correct.
But it bad journalism to simply change a story without pointing out that you changed it and why you changed it. Bad journalism is a way to confuse, obfuscate, and introduce red herrings.
I haven’t yet looked at the link you gave but I wanted you to understand that you don’t know what report I was looking at. I was looking at both the original report and the one that was sneakily edited without explanation, and I noted that the two reports differed.

Okay, now I saw the link you provided.
On this one they’re saying that there was a radio communication that was sent out because Crooks was seen at the entrance 30 minutes before the first shots.
But that is problematic too, when you realize how many trips he had to make back from his car to get his backpack, get his rifle, etc.
To be honest, I’m wondering if both Crooks and the other guy (that Roger Stone’s sources told him was the shooter; I keep forgetting his name but the photo of the dead guy on the roof looks more like that other guy than like Crooks) were there and that is contributing to the confusion amongst the reports. There was plenty of room for both of them to hide amongst the buildings and/or on that roof since there were lower sections of roof on the parking lot side, away from where the rally-goers were at.
We’ve got an initial report that he was on the roof 30 minutes before and a later report that he was seen near the entrance at the same time. Is one of these wrong, or are they both correct and there were 2 similar-looking, similarly-dressed people? We don’t know. It would have helped if the news page that changed its story had told us that they changed it and why they changed it.
