Thomas Crooks’ phone has offered federal investigators no clear explanations about why the 20-year-old from suburban Pittsburgh tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Investigators have now turned their attention to the shooter’s laptop in the hopes of uncovering clues about his motive — a question that has proven still elusive two days after the shooting that rocked the nation.
Investigators have been able to piece together some clues about Crooks’ movements in before the shooting at 6:11 p.m. on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Earlier in the day, he bought 50 rounds of ammunition from Allegheny Arms & Gun Works and a metal ladder from Home Depot, which he used to climb to the roof of a factory with a clear sight-line to Trump’s podium, sources said.
Sources said the AR-style assault rifle Crooks used belonged to his father — Matthew Brian Crooks, a licensed counselor who registered to vote as a Libertarian.
The dad called police sometime Saturday to report that his son was missing — along with one of the roughly 20 guns he owned and kept in their modest suburban home in Bethel Park, about 25 minutes south of Pittsburgh, according to sources.
Meanwhile, Jim Knapp, who retired from his job as the school counselor at Bethel Park High School in 2022, said Crooks had always been “quiet as a churchmouse,” “respectful” and kept to himself, although he did have a few friends.
He rarely came across Crooks because “he wasn’t a needy type kid,” Knapp said. Crooks was content to occasionally eat lunch by himself in the school cafeteria, said Knapp, who would engage such students to see if they wanted company.
“Kids weren’t calling him names, kids weren’t bullying him,” Knapp said.

Put the ladder in place a few days early? Take it from the facility? Lie it on its side, throw a little dirt and trash on it...it’s been sitting there a while.
Either Crooks or accomplice could do that. Could even be someone who worked there.

Me too. And I’m trying to think what evidence would be left behind from that.
If he bought a ladder on Saturday morning he had already received instructions about a rooftop being unguarded by secret service by then. Would he have learned that from somebody in person? Would phone locations show who he had met with? Or would they just beam the instructions right into his brain using microwave technology?
When the school counselor says “Something made him snap” that is very suspicious. For somebody who seems to have been apolitical to go out and do this.... it suggests psychological manipulation. What drugs was he on? He was known to Blackrock; was in an advertisement for them. Was he known to government contacts through that?
There is video of him confronting Trump people and he sure screamed like a banshee at them.
He could have even had a burner phone.

this whole thing stinks. They came within a slight gust of the wind and Trump suddenly tilting his head from pulling this off.
On the Q thread there is discussion about the ears of the guy shot on top of the roof. Roger Stone had said at one point that his sources were saying the shooter was actually an Antifa guy, can’t remember his name. But the discussion on the Q thread seemed to indicate that the ears on the guy in that photo don’t match the ears of Crooks.
I’m not good with 3D or graphics so it’s a waste of my time to try to analyze it but if you look there you could find the discussion and analyze it for yourself.
The trouble with all this is that it’s a corrupt FBI telling us what the evidence is so we’ll probably never really know for sure. They could fabricate everything and how could any of us prove otherwise?
Bullcrap. As I said in another thread, the FBI still has info on 9/11 they haven’t made public after decades. (And I don’t mean nutty “bombs instead of planes” crap, but real info on the hijackers and their connections and what the government knew about them.) They lie about this sort of thing all the time. Need to be reformed from top to bottom.
So he bought the ladder the day of the rally? That means he couldn’t have pre-positioned it and had to have carried it right past security? IMPOSSIBLE, unless the cops and/or Secret Service were deaf, dumb, and blind or THEY ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN. There are no other possibilities.
