If looks are the key to Donald Trump's vice presidential pick then there is only one winner.
J.D. Vance's blue eyes and thick beard first caught the attention of the former president two years ago, when the author and former Marine was competing for the Republican nomination in Ohio's Senate race.
'He's one handsome son of a bitch,' Trump told his inner circle.
Since then Vance has emerged as one of his most formidable promoters on cable news channels.
And a strict running regimen instituted during his run for Senate has seen the possible veep lose weight recently, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by Trump himself, according to a source familiar with the former president's conversations.
'He's got the look,' is another Trump assessment, noting the slimmed down figure and choice of well-fitting suits.
It leaves the Ohio senator as one of three candidates—along with Sen. Marco Rubio, 53, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, 67—on a shortlist for vice president.
Supporters, who include the likes of Donald Trump Jr. and former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, say he brings a deep connection with the rust belt states that could decide the election, a personal history that embodies the American Dream, and the sort of TV skills essential for the president's number-one advocate.
Critics accuse him of being a political chameleon, selling out his Never Trump credentials at the first sniff of power.
Either way it marks an extraordinary rise for a 39-year-old brought up in the crushing poverty of southern Ohio by his heroin-addicted mother and his fierce grandmother.
His 2016 memoir, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' catapulted him to literary and political fame, establishing him as the sort of working class, white author who could decode Trump and his allure for an uncomprehending liberal and conservative establishment.

ON the other hand:
THAT experience could make him able to ID the chaff from the wheat.
I wonder if all those Conservative Christians still feel that way after J6 & many of Pence’s other comments.
I would hate to lose Desantis or Youngkin as effective governors. At least y’all still have Winsome Sears. But, I think either one or both would be valuable additions as cabinet secretaries, AG and Commerce, respectively.
I wonder if all those Conservative Christians still feel that way after J6 & many of Pence’s other comments.
IMO, PENCE shed what little loyalty he MAY have had for TRUMP like a molting hen.
There is way too much freedom of speech on FR. By the way Vance is the best choice and anyone who doesn’t agree with me should go to DU(sarc)
“ today, my pick is the VA governor”

Him, or Sarah Huckabee Saunders. She is tough as nails, and doesn’t take crap from the media. Been loyal to DJT since 2016.
Don’t forget that DeWine is a king-size RINO
2. One of them lobbies for a political agenda that aligns with the globalist business interests of the other.
Credit those who were ‘special operators behind enemy lines’. They are courageous and knowledgeable.
I would remind you that some of Trump's biggest margins of victory in 2016 were in states where Democrats had historically dominated the political scene up until a few decades ago. His largest margin was in West Virginia -- which had more registered Democrats than Republicans up until about 2020.
What this meant was that Trump has had to work hardest to shore up his support among REPUBLICANS in many of these states.
I don't think that has really changed in eight years ... hence the strong possibility that Trump's running mate will be someone who is closely aligned with the GOP establishment.
It wouldn't matter. They were there to help Trump win in 2016 -- which was Pence's purpose for being on the ticket in the first place.
Tulsi Gabbard is easy on the eyes
Not to ladies.
Not Rand Paul.
“Governor Mike DeWine will appoint John “The Mailman” Kasich to fill Vance’s Senate term if Vance is the VP Pick.”
Please, God, NO! This is exactly what I was afraid of!
“Vance is certainly the media’s darling.”
If Vance is chosen as VP, that will change in a hurry. They will come after him like a rabid dog.
Please don't let it be J. D. Vance.
Apology refused, Senator Vance!
Sorry, but a grown man with nation-wide notoriety should know better than to call anyone "America's Hitler" without first thoroughly researching the issue.
Just saying, "I regret, I'm sorry, I wish I hadn't said that, etc." without first explaining WHY, at that time, he felt it was a reasonable judgement, and why, NOW, it is an incorrect evaluation, is insufficient.
Regards,
Regards to you as well. If we all thought the same there would be no political contests or horse races.
