Failure and slaughter: IDF’s Be’eri probe shows army’s colossal errors, residents’ bravery
Times of Israel ^ | 7/11/24 | Emanuel Fabian

On the morning of October 7, 2023, hundreds of terrorists swarmed into the unsuspecting Gaza border community of Kibbutz Be’eri, in what would become one of the deadliest killing grounds amid the Hamas-led terror onslaught, and the worst attack on a single community.

Residents were left to fend for themselves for long hours, with the army — stunned by the shock attack on dozens of towns and in utter disarray — failing to come to their rescue as terrorists moved from home to home, kidnapping, brutalizing and massacring civilians well into the afternoon.

I thought Mossad was one of the best intelligence agencies in the world and IDF had that border ironclad. It still doesn’t make sense. It’s also curious that Hamas wasn’t evaporated by the second week, hostages recovered and Gaza secured.

Two weeks? Gaza is basically the size of Okinawa, just a little bit smaller. It’s filled from one end to the other with development and buildings. It took us months to slog through Okinawa, and that wasn’t exclusively urban combat.
Also Israel with a very small nation, every casualty matters.
It’s hard fighting and they are moving with due deliberation.
Also, bear in mind, if they did an all out entire military attack on Gaza such that they could defeat it in two weeks, they have to consider what the West Bank or what Hezbollah in the north might do.

I watched a show on World War Two in the Pacific. On one of the islands, and I apologize for not remembering which one, after a long drawn out battle the island was declared secure. The Marine units that had done the fighting were about to be rotated out and replaced. They were scheduled to fly out first thing in the morning and the new commander wanted everything to run smoothly. They were not allowed to fly with loaded weapons according to the show so the commander ordered everyone to surrender all their ammunition the night before. The men were not happy at all because many of them believed the island wasn’t completely secure so some of them held on to small amounts of their ammo. Of course the Japanese mounted a Banzai suicide attack that night and were it not for some incredible heroics by the Marines who kept their weapons loaded they all would have been slaughtered. I think Israel and the IDF suffered from some of the same problems as the Marine Commander; bad intelligence, complacency and wishful thinking.

Me too. Secure borders isn’t exactly new science.

Can you imagine the North Koreans prancing down South and shooting the place up?

Unreal. I never believed Jew hate was so alive and well in America. Apparently it’s been seething under the surface. I was unhappy with how fast Bibi capped Biden with congratulations on the very morning of the steal. I heartily dislike their authoritarian covid response.

But good lord, in October 7 I have never seen a more clear cut example of good and evil. Anyone confused about this and lining up against Israel, has a serious flaw in their moral compass.

Mine?!? Check the author brainiac and take it up with him. You are so pro Bibi and his slaughter that you lose your mind and give me grief over what this Israeli source wrote. What are you, some anti Semite? And you denigrate the Israeli intel and air force?!? You ARE an anti Semite! Your slander of anything official Israeli is now against the law, I believe. You support genocide but don’t support the perpetrators of it. You better give up the fascism. It’s frying your brain even worse.

You seem inordinately affectionate towards Hamas. Why is that?

We may have some infiltrators here. They twist the conversation in dysfunctional directions. Perhaps they are engaging in their own version of Taqiyya and Kitman.

The inside help was the political party that made gun ownership difficult. Like US’s DNC — they want your children to die so that you will vote in a Spetnaz, Gestapo, etc.
