Part of what brought Vance to the dance may be his undoing. Donors are scared of him.
In his rise from Donald Trump critic to viable contender to be the presumptive Republican nominee’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio has come so far. But he may fall just short thanks to some risk-averse GOP donors.

Illogical. Illogical. All units relate. All units. Norman, coordinate.
Lawrence Welk was born in 1903 and Doug Burgum was born in 1956, yet you suggest, and ask for confirmation, that they were school classmates. 53 years apart in age means they could not be classmates, "illogical, illogical, Norman coordinate."
What?
Trump has donors?
With anybody else, having donors is a bad thing ... we don’t want anybody beholden to the ‘donor class’.
He absolutely is what the establishment wants. He’s a longtime establishment guy, part of Hollywood. A strong dislike of conservatives and midwesterners. Not a conservative bone in his body. He never “discovered” he was a conservative until he wanted to be a Senator. He’s the Dr. Oz of Ohio. He’s spent the last months burnishing his establishment credentials.
I think he’s lost some white men.
I bet he at least does better among black women this time, than in 2020 or 2016.
I don’t trust him. A few years ago, he was the darling of liberal media.
“I’ve been very impressed with Congressman Byron Donalds, and President Trump mentioned him with enthusiasm the other night, but he has the same problem as Rubio having residency in Florida.”
##################
Me, too. I would be very pleased if Trump chose Donalds as his VP. I’m sure Trump could have a workaround regarding residency. Maybe live at one of his golf courses. If he wins, he will use the White House.
I doubt it’s a problem if Donalds is the guy.
That's more like it.
“He should definitely pick Not Sure.”
~~~~~~~
That has (wisely) been his public choice, so far. 🐸
“The more I read about the others, the more I want Tim Scott as VP”
#################
I’m concerned about Scott’s establishment affiliations, but he would definitely help Trump win in November. Vance and Burgum would not.
I don’t see the point of Burgum. How does he help us win? Vance would be just fine. I think I prefer Rubio. There are a ton of Spanish-speaking voters in Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. I don’t see how it could possibly hurt to have a guy on the ballot who can speak to them in their native language.
Rubio is a total establishment guy through and through
The people who supported Burgum, said he would bring money and contacts with business. I think Vance would be worse than any of them, except RFK Jr. or Cuomo.
And Vance even more so.
“You don’t think he risks losing conservative votes?”
###########################
By choosing someone who is not a white male? Any votes Trump would lose would be numerically insignificant. Sure, there’s some sticklers, including some on this board, but those are probably the same ones who proudly and arrogantly touted “Jefferson Beauregard Sessions” to be Trump’s AG choice back in 2017.
Vance hasn’t been around long enough to out-establishment Rubio who was part of the Gang of Eight trying to grant a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the United States.
As for me, I’d like to see someone with real chops…gravitas, experience. If it’s a Senator, make it Lee or Cruz, if a Governor, get Abbott.
“As for me, I’d like to see someone with real chops…gravitas, experience. If it’s a Senator, make it Lee or Cruz, if a Governor, get Abbott.”
Chops, gravitas, and experience are meaningless if we lose in November. Lee, Cruz, or Abbott do not bring in any new votes, and likely lose many from the middle. Same with Vance, Burgum, or Rubio.
Sorry to sound DEI, but Trump’s only chance to win is to choose a VP who is NOT a white male.
The actual function of a VP under Trump is basically meaningless. Quick, name something Pence did as VP, besides betray Trump in Jan 2021.
If Trump wins in November, the race in 2028 will be wide open regardless of who is the VP. Politics ain’t what it was 40-50 years ago.
100%
Ted Cruz was born in 1970. I think it is his father who has been accused of being somehow connected to the plot to kill JFK.
