Once seen as a symbol of protection against the spread of a deadly virus, masks are now being blamed for emboldening some people to commit acts of violence amid a rise in clashes at protests over the Israel-Hamas war.
Elected officials in New York City and Los Angeles have signaled recently that they’re open to reinstating decades-old mask bans after several tense pro-Palestinian demonstrations, where local officials say masked protesters aimed to conceal their identity. Republicans in North Carolina recently signed a controversial mask restriction into law, sparking an intense debate between supporters who cite safety concerns and critics who argue it could affect protesting and free speech rights. In January, Philadelphia banned ski masks in public spaces in an effort to reduce crime, citing several incidents of violence involving masked gunmen.

“Critics call the trend a ‘dog whistle’ to quell protest.”
And?
In no way does not being able to conceal your face infringe on your right to free speech. You can still speak freely.
What you can’t do is commit crimes - often violent crimes - with impunity. That’s exactly why the Klan wore masks and exactly why many Southern states have mask bans.
That’s exactly why Klantifa wears masks and exactly why I call them Klan-tifa.
They can call it whatever they want. I. don’t. care.
If we should be wearing masks, pass a law requiring it, I dare ya.
Except for the rules of private establishments, one should have the right to wear whatever dopey mask or racist hood that they want. Plus, with the exception of elderly people or recent organ transplants, I prefer to see the clear signal from my presumed enemy. Ninety percent of the time, it’s akin to seeing a rattle on a snake. Gives us warning to dispatch that snake.
Yet another dog whistle.
Well friggin duh.... like who didn’t see this one coming. We are being ruled by dumbazzes.
I’m sure you can walk your dog in one. Just not loot and rob.
Just this morning I saw a young and vigorous looking fool in the grocery store parking lot, inside his car and driving with all his windows up, wearing a mask.
We’ve been ruled by them for far too long.
At least NBC acknowledges masks are nothing but a “symbol” ... as Rush used to say, “symbolism over substance” is what the Left practices.
At more than one anti-Israel rally near a tent city occupation of a college campus the reporter asked “If you are speaking out like this shouldn’t you be able to remove your mask?” They make excuses and say they show their faces elsewhere. All BS.
My mask, tucked away somewhere read, “Straight Outta Wuhan”.
Actually it's the reverse: police will shoot your dog for no reason but look the other way when robbers and looters steal merchandise valued at less than $950.
Negroids love them masks...#1 one as some sort of protest or #2 to act like the masked bandits..which they demonstrably are.
“If we should be wearing masks, pass a law requiring it”
Masks should be required for ugly people. In fact, IIRC, there was a survey a couple years ago, and the love for masks was primarily with ugly people.
They banning face diaper or half mask safety respirators? There is a big difference!
The corona virus molecule is 100 times smaller than the holes in the mask cloth.
It is like putting up a chain link fence around your yard to keep mosquitoes out.
Part of being a free country is telling your government not to force you to wear or not wear a mask in public.
One would think after Jan 6 and mania of going after the people who showed up there, and rise of the authoritative left that the ‘right’ would learn to hide their identifies and would want to use every advantage at a public protest or meet up. Being able to cover yourself from being doxxed by the left is a concern, and anyone should be able to cover their identity in public.
They’re talking about banning masks, not requiring them.
