The outgoing head of the British Army General Sir Patrick Sanders has warned that NATO may only have five years to prepare for war.
General Sir Patrick warned that the world was facing one of its most dangerous moments since 1945 when the world was last at war and that the alliance may have until the end of this decade to be ready.
Sir Patrick also highlighted that despite performing well in some areas, the UK’s armed forces were also underfunded and overstretched.
His warnings come at a time of rising global tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine, China’s warnings of Taiwan, and the continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.

> No insult intended. <
Thanks for touching base. I understand that these are difficult times, and sometimes conversations get a bit heated. Bottom line: Trump 2024.

“A Chinese invasion of Taiwan won’t affect the UK in the least.”
Uh, yes it will. Taiwan is dominate in microchips and nobody else comes close (we regulated our microchip industry to death).
Their industries all need microchips for important and trivial things (like controlling a car seat because people can seemingly no longer use manual adjustments).
This is one of the reasons I am getting a new car soon, in case China invades because car prices will skyrocket. This will happen sooner rather than later unless Chinese intelligence can keep the demented one in the White House.
At any rate Britain won’t be an industrialized nation anyway if they become Islamic. The only Muslim nations that have a significant manufacturing base are Turkey and Malaysia.
.
Five years?
That means war in three !!
The UK sure talks a lot of military provocational BS for a country whose armed forces are roughly the size of Morocco’s and smaller than Mexico’s.
Looks like “Sir Patrick” wants some funding for some defense contractors......
> you did say Russia can’t even beat Ukraine which IS a real idiot claim. <
Oh my goodness. Another personal insult.
The Ukraine/Russia war is now at an essential stalemate. Big old Russia cannot quickly overrun little Ukraine. So I stand by my statement.
However, time marches on. As I have noted elsewhere, in a war of attrition Russia is heavily favored to win.
But that’s not the central point in this thread. That British general is implying that Russia is a threat to Europe, and to the UK in particular. No way. Russia has its hands full with Ukraine. Russia will not be driving on Paris or London, ever.
They will. It might not take 5 years, however.
I firmly believe that Russia would government Europe better than their own governments do. Western governments are shattering their own countries. There is no center, no sense of country left in all Western countries. Their governments breed nothing but division and moral confusion and impending economic doom.
> Uh, yes it will. Taiwan is dominate in microchips and nobody else comes close (we regulated our microchip industry to death). <
True. But then such things tend to reach an equilibrium. If the ChiComs take Taiwan, they will dominate the microchip industry. But then other factories will spring up elsewhere.
The problem will be the lag time. It could be significant. So, yes. Your concern is warranted.
I’m not seeking personal insult, but there is overwhelming evidence that Russia has TOTALLY defeated Ukraine if you don’t go by CIA/MI6/StateDept/Bidementia/NYT/WaPo/BBC propaganda,
but feel free.
Russia's objective at the present time is to destroy the Ukrainian military, not territorial gains.
The slow grind saves lives and also doesn't alienate Russia's allies.
Russia's goals going in were the liberate Donbass and build a land bridge from Crimea to mainland Russia. The Russians accomplished most of their intent territorial gains within the first nine months. Now, it's just a matter of protecting the annexed territory.
Yup. I mean how can I hate Russia compared with our government when ours is facilitating an invasion by border jumpers?
We are so screwed.
> there is overwhelming evidence that Russia has TOTALLY defeated Ukraine <
Uh, no. If Russia has totally defeated Ukraine, Russian troops would be occupying Kiev, just as American troops occupied Tokyo in 1945.
Don’t get me wrong. If this war continues as it is, Russia will win as it’s a war of attrition. No doubt about that. Russia will win. But we are not there yet. NATO might intervene (which would be a disastrous thing). Or Trump 2.0 might negotiate a peace treaty that’s acceptable to everyone involved.
The US claims that China is "overproducing". It is my fear that with the tailing off of the population explosion, it may very well be the case that much more stuff is being produced than can be consumed. There are numerous videos of huge tracts of land filled up with cars or scooters or what-have-you that appear to be new products just rusting away in abandoned fields or on abandoned runways.
If this is the case, then maybe these Neocon wars are just ways to lower Russian and Chinese production of consumer products and redirect them to military gear. I guess they hope this won't lead to all out nuclear war, but that's a risky bet.
So true unfortunately.
