With just four months until the presidential election, Democrats scramble to decide if they should replace President Joe Biden with a different candidate on their ticket in November.
After the 81-year-old stumbled, mumbled and blank-stared his way through his debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta last month, Democrats are concerned about his mental fitness and viability as a candidate.
The Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois is August 19-22 and will conclude with the party choosing its nominee for 2024.
It's now unclear if that will still be Biden.
Some names being floated as his replacement are California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and – more begrudgingly – Vice President Kamala Harris.
DailyMail.com breaks down how Democrats can oust Biden and the state laws regarding ballot printing and when it might be too late for the Party to choose a replacement for the incumbent president.
Biden is the sole candidate who is officially eligible for nomination at this stage, according to the party rules that will be formalized during the first day of the Convention on August 19.
Those within the Democratic Party have acknowledged that current rules make it hard for other candidates to earn the nomination this year and if Biden doesn't agree to step aside, the prospects become essentially impossible.
Delegates were finalized at selection on June 22 and were chosen on a state-by-state basis to represent support for the president in the nomination process. It's unlikely they would shift their backing.
There are 43,933 pledged Democratic delegates for 2024 and to win the presidential nomination a candidate must earn a majority of them – estimated at 1,968 this year.
But many say they aren't changing this late in the game.

Like they would go by these laws.
Oh please. A Special rule committee will be spring uo in every state assembly to drag Brandon’s ass over the finish line. And I include Red states. Ohio just did it.
1,968 is a majority of over 43,000 delegates?
The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held August 19 to 22, 2024, in Chicago.
That leaves plenty of time to replace Biden but not much time for the replacement to campaign and debate.
The big question is whether they can convince Michelle Obama to participate in a highly staged mini-campaign for 6 weeks.
Exactly!!! There isn’t an election law written that a judge will uphold.
If he dies all these pesky problems go away.
Is there a pool out there?
Can one or 2 of our states play hardball?
What would Lee Atwater do?
50 states. Most won’t matter. We only need one or 2 to make a difference. THE difference? We’re dealing with republicans here.
Cut off? Democrats do what they want when they want.
3,933 pledged delegates and 739 superdelegates.
1,968 to win on first round. Biden has 3,800+ pledged delegates.
I remember back in the early 2000’s when democrats replaced their New Jersey Senate candidate literally months after the state-imposed deadline, they just got some liberal federal Judge to rule the deadline would disenfranchise voters or some such nonsense. So, in reality there is no deadline, I suppose there may be a practical deadline once it’s too late to print new ballots or early voting starts. But that would be way up in early October.
By comparison, Republicans have 6.6% extra delegates that consist mostly of party chairs.
Big difference. To me the biggest example of why it is bad is people like Donna Brazille. No one elected the liar and cheat. And they stoled the nomination from Sanders in the past. The party needs to fix this.
If they get Biden to walk, it would be the about the dumbest thing they could do to try to replace him with anyone with a pulse.
There is no way the rat candidate is locked in all these states when they have not even had their convention.
Jill and Brandon will not go quietly into the night. First upstarts who start formal proceedings for anything resembling replacing him in a state will meet the hellfire, IMO.
I think this has been the plan from day 1 before 2020...
Joe would be president, and then be assassinated at the very last moment before his 2nd term in order for the dems to garner the sympathy vote.
Even Joe knew this going in.
Just one big distraction after another to fool We the People into thinking we still control who is president.
Superdelegates don’t get a vote in first round. Bernie’s revenge.
maybe the real problem ...
..is that the LynchMoboCrat party ...
...has had runbeck print up all 100 million joe ballots long ago ....
and dont have time or paper or ink enoufh to print up another 100 million ballots...
..
.. with someone elses names on them.
.
But if Biden drops out beforehand, does that still apply?
I don't think they can automatically go to Harris as she has not been nominated to be VP yet.
