‘Waiting in the wings’: as Biden stumbles, Gavin Newsom’s name is on everyone’s lips
The Guardian ^ | Tue 2 Jul 2024 | Maanvi Singh

To paraphrase Jan Brady of the Brady Bunch, lately it’s been “Newsom, Newsom, Newsom” all day long.

He’s been at the Vatican for a climate summit, and in Alpharetta, Georgia, for a televised debate with Florida governor Ron DeSantis. He’s all over the TV, actually – on Fox News and MSNBC, and in advertisements airing in Tennessee.

And ever since Joe Biden’s catastrophic performance at the first presidential debate on CNN, his name has popped up in nearly every list of possible successors. With just four months to go until the presidential election, chances that the president would step aside now are exceedingly remote – but that hasn’t stopped the speculation. Online political betting odds that Gavin Newsom, the California governor, would end up at the top of the presidential ticket this year tripled to a one-in-four chance last week.

For the ambitious governor of the most populous US state, this crowning moment has been a long time in the making. For years, Newsom’s flair for a photo op and steady pursuit of network news spots have fueled speculation about his presidential ambitions, and sparked scepticism among constituents who’d rather he stick to his day job.

Now, it seems, the man who has spent the last several years seeking a national stage has finally found himself at the centre of one.

“I think it’s been clear that he’s been waiting in the wings for some time,” said Emily Hoeven, an opinion columnist at the San Francisco Chronicle and politics reporter who has followed Newsom’s career closely. “But I think that now there is a far bigger opening for him than there ever has been.”

Newsom and Harris are both from CA. I thought that both the President and VP had to be from different states. That’s the Trump - Rubio issue.

That’s part of their play book. Create such desperation and lower the bar to such a degree that any left wing communist is appealing to the democrat party and their anti American base.

Newsom is a narcissistic empty suit. He’s destroyed California while bragging about how he’s solved the problems. He’s also related to Nasty P. Lousy. Need more be said?

That isn’t all that’s on their “lips” . What idiocy. It’s all about money— and the dnc is going to spend it on the steal. We have to mobilize overwhelmingly to counter the ballot stuff AND the cyber methods through the DOD they did in 2020. Fight them, don’t stand by like a minority and watch the show, whining the whole way.

"...Gavin Newsom's name is on everyone's lips"

noisome
adjective
1. Offensive to the point of arousing disgust; foul.

It doesn’t matter which one they put up, including Biden. Results will be the same.

Yanking higher office from the hands of a Black Woman should just about do it for the democrats this go around.

I can't image dems would be that dumb.

But then, they forced the damaged Joe Biden forward in 2020. What do I know.

sorry but Newsom’s name being on everyone’s lips is only part of the truth

the rest is that words like “Basturd” and “A-Whole” and “Screwup” always accompany his name

Besides,
1. he’s governor of a Failed State,
2. which is also bankrupt
3. and which has hundreds of thousands of socalled “homeless” drug addicts, winos, and criminals literally littering its streets and public spaces
4. all enticed to go to California because that state pays out two or three times as much free benefits as needed
5. one of the socalled homeless just shoved a 74 year old lady off the train platform and into the path of an oncoming BART train yesterday in San Fransicko, killing her instantly
6. all Trump would have to do is just show videos of California either in LA or SF or Oakland or almost anywhere, even from out the window of a transit train you see thousands of “homeless” all lined up with tents and broken down cars, in some places they go for two or three miles along the street that way
7. besides, all Trump would have to do is point out that Newsoom is Nancy PeLOUSy’s fav nephew

no, Newsom is not gonna be POTUS, he was all set up for it but he’s proven himself to be a giant Loser.

the D’s will select someone without all of Newsom’s baggage. Maybe a well-regarded sports figure?

This is absolutely disgusting: since the passing of the California “Megan’s law”, California has released over 7000 convicted pedophiles from Prison after they had served LESS than 1 year of their sentences. This is a previously reported FACT

Gavin Newsome should not be allowed to serve in ANY public office much less run for President of the USA. He and his perverted deviant supporters, who believe raping both male and female CHILDREN is Ok, should be held criminally negligent as soon as the first child rapes happen. Remember this and pass it on to everyone you know ASAP.

If Trump picks that old man from North Dakota, be well assured that the media will start calling them the geriatrics team. Trump cannot afford to pick another old man as VP. He needs to go with either McDonald or Vevik! Remember if something should happen to Trump, the VP is going to become very important during this selection. And I guarantee you people don’t want another old man at that helm! Please president Trump pick someone young…. This time around the VP does matter.

Nope. He’s screwed up California so bad that his failed policies would be the fodder of Republican attack ads.

Democrats lose with Newsome. The black and female vote will swing to Trump if they skip over Kamala.

Yes, they lose with Kamala also, but she is in the #2 position and to push a black female (stop debating it) out of the way destroys the DNC base.

The only way Newsome gets in is if Harris steps aside to become governor of California…..which is a sure bet. She cannot go there if she runs for POTUS and loses.

Newsome will not win with his California track record..

If they get Kamala out of the way, it will be Michelle. She is a sure bet as she is an unknown politically. Barack can pull the strings and she only needs to read from a teleprompter from time to time, just like Biden.
