No he would have likely been impeached and removed from office.

Exactly! This is what everyone misses on the decision. Nothing in the Supreme Court decision stops Congress from impeaching and (if convicted) removing the President from office.

It is a sign of how poorly people understand the Constitution that this even gets mentioned. I'm not surprised the Dhimms don't care what the Constitution says, but there are even those who should know better climbing on this bandwagon.

A central and key part of this Supreme Court decision is that it is strictly limited to actions of the Judicial branch. Nothing in it limits Congress at all.

Yep - the book “Silent Coup”.

Funny how John Dean runs the break-in (to get the call-girl book with his future wife’s name in it) and then they pull him out of the nursing home every chance they get to tie Nixon’s name to a conservative president.

“Nixon was the kind of guy who could be persuaded by the argument “for the good of the country...”

Right before the gap in the Watergate tapes, Nixon says something like “This could bring up the whole Cuban thing.”

Nixon used Cubans from the Bay of Pigs fiasco to do his dirty tricks stuff, and some were caught in the Watergate. I’ve wondered if that is a reference to their possible involvement in JFK’s assassination when they were probably being run by the CIA?

Nixon tried to keep the “Pentagon Papers” from being leaked. Even though that report was about Johnson’s terrible running of the war, Nixon, for the good of the country, wanted them to remain classified.

Running a black bag operation against a political for is not an official duty.

Nixon didn't run the operation; he didn't know about it until after the fact. He participated in the coverup, and we (Republicans) told him to get lost.

It was the covering up of what his advisors did that got him into trouble. I agree with you. Had Nixon stood back, took some heat but not covered up for Dean, Colson, and the others and the others, then he would have survived.

Of they could have tried to say Nixon planned the whole thing but the evidence shows he had no knowledge of the issue until the story broke and arrests were made. The Dems would have done the guilt by association smear and demanded a resignation but Nixon at that point would have had grounds to “stand pat”...and call their bluff. The cover up took away that option.

Assuming that’s what happened.

He resigned to avoid impeachment; imho it’s likely he’d have been convicted in the Senate, depending upon the charges, based upon exactly your point (though pertaining to the coverup, not the break-in itself).

More importantly, the ruling Monday wouldn’t have ‘expanded’ diddly as it pertained to protecting Nixon any more than it will to DJT or, for that matter, the puppet himself.

It is more interesting to me to witness that from the right we are promoting checks & balances - just as the Founders intended - whereas from the left we are witness to all that the Founders sought to prevent.

And that is FACT, not ‘bias’.

So the Watergate break-in was ‘official business’ for Nixon’s WH? You need to quit drinking John.

It shows their totalitarianism. They “see” it so much in others.

All the more tragic that Nixon chose to try and cover up for the miscreants, since the CIA might have been involved.

To: Thank You Rush

It 100% does not matter.

The remedy for misconduct is impeachment and removal, a sole power of Congress. It is not making up laws to turn one part of the Executive Branch against another, since that makes one branch (Congress) write rules and exercise supervision over another (Executive).

The deep-state went after Nixon because he ended the Vietnam war and tried to make peace with China
