A bill being considered in New York would, as of Jan. 1, 2025, prohibit the sale of gasoline-powered leaf blowers and lawn mowers in the state, according to a May 23 report from WYRK. Legislation regarding gas-powered equipment bans was introduced back in 2021.

The bill (Assembly Bill A705) is currently being considered by a committee assembly.

The legislature in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota in 2023 already proposed banning the sale of gas powered leaf blowers, chain saws and lawn mowers not to mention Zamboni ice rink conditioning machines essential for playing hockey. Should the ban be enacted, I expect gas equipment will still be available, but sold in back alleys out of unmarked trucks.

I am NOT in favor of a ban on leaf blowers. You can have as many as you want....run 5 at once if you want to. What I am in favor of is strict noise enforcement. Why should I have to put up with the noise created by somebody else destroying my enjoyment of my property? Max 45 dBase at the property line....

The proposal also bans gas powered lawn mowers. I guess NY is going to give up on people mowing lawns.

Boy, that's save us from "global warming".

Generally agree. Grew up on ‘da Range in northern MN - a true Jack Pine Savage. Because I was an engineer, and had tree climbing euqipment, I’d often drop troublesome trees between a house and a garage, etc for neighbors. 30 years later?

I have sciatica and lower back problems. Still have the gamut of saws - mostly Stihl.

But last week I bought a battery-powered 18” saw. It worked for what I wanted (cleaning up after a tornado), and didn’t tick me off re filters and pickup tubes.

2” orange tree limbs to 13” live oak. No problems and quiet.

It is not suited for my wood yard - I have two fireplaces and a smoker, but I’m quite happy

Now, if I could only afford a second battery!

“Still have the gamut of saws - mostly Stihl.”

Damn, you were serious if you were using Stihl.

“Now, if I could only afford a second battery!”

Yep, that’s the killer. Probably takes 5 battery charges to match one tank of gas.

Geez. I’m lucky if I can sleep until 8 am under ideal conditions, nowadays. I really don’t care if somebody blows leaves at 8 am.

Before they do this, sensible thing to do would be to phase out 110v for universal 240v. Many 110v electric machines are too weak, and are not popular for that reason. Rechargeables will also charge faster.

My neighbor has one for an acre lot. It takes him all day to push. He says he does it for exercise. When I hear him mowing, it sounds like a big ceiling fan.

Which one causes more damage to the earth, a 500 sq mile forest fire or a gas lawnmower?

Who needs the gas powered model? (I have an Ego battery model)

Only landscape companies need the endurance of gas power. The batteries are very expensive, $300.

Since the majority of landscapers are people of color, is this not a racist action begging for a liberal judge to intervene? /s

They have already outlawed gas powered landscaping tools in Ca. I really feel for landscapers the battery charges don’t last long enough to go from house to house for a business THEN they are out in the field how in the hell are they supposed to recharge the damn batteries?? I work at Home Depot part time and we no longer have ANY gas powered tools, the batteries and chargers are damned expensive, landscapers would need a truck full of fully charged batteries before starting their work for the day ridiculous!! These stinking legislators sit up in their ivory towers NEVER have worked a day in their lives making ridiculous laws destroying hard working people just trying to get by!!!
