A new national divide is emerging among states over whether to track sales by gun stores

Should gun store sales get special credit card tracking? States split on mandating or prohibiting it.

Beginning Monday, a California law will require credit card networks like Visa and Mastercard to provide banks with special retail codes that can be assigned to gun stores in order to track their sales.

But new laws will do the exact opposite in Georgia, Iowa, Tennessee and Wyoming by banning the use of specific gun shop codes.

The conflicting laws highlight what has quietly emerged as one of the nation’s newest gun policy debates, dividing state capitols along familiar partisan lines.

It’s a violation of privacy rights and should be challenged in the courts.

Agree that your supplement is what the government wants to do, but they still aren’t allowed by statute to amass Forms 4473.....yet.

How about special codes for tracking individual migrant-invader vermin making a purchase of any kind in any store, gas station, or restaurant?

The communists who rule us only want to track the dwindling-number of American citizens remaining in the country for guns, thought, location, and speech...

“Always pay with cash.”

I have never bought anything on credit in my life. Cash, check or debit card.

Why all the fuss over guns.? Guns are a very small problem. Half the gun deaths are suicides and don’t count. The other half are black thugs killing black thugs and that’s good.

If you can’t afford to pay with cash, you probably can’t afford a gun.

And what if the store codes the sale as camping equipment?

They are using the 4473 to access the data as it comes through to make the background check and then store it in a database. Just because they don’t get the actual paperwork right now doesn’t matter.

Also the last time I filled out a 4473 it was done on a Dedicated Tablet not paper.

That was at Sportsmans Warehouse

I CAN GUARANTEE IT’S BEING PUT INTO A DATABASE.

IIRC, this government is prohibited from compiling a gun registry database, period. They aren’t even allowed to keep all of the Forms 4473 that are filed (only when the gun seller goes out of business do those forms go to the government, and that is only so they can track where a specific gun went, i.e., when one is used in a crime ).

Yes, but when did that ever stop them? They'll keep the records anyways and who's going to know or be able to do anything about it?

That’s why it’s so important that we get a President in office who is willing to hold those agencies (e.g., collusion between NCIC and BATFE) fully accountable. The same thing goes for Congress. As it is now they are very likely egregiously violating the spirit (and letter) of the 1986 FOPA (Firearms Owner’s Protection Act.)

The key word in your answer was ‘dedicated tablet.’ I’d just say that it is very likely only supposed to be (4473 information) kept on that dedicated tablet and that NCICs/ATF retention wrt to highly specific gun ownership data isn’t to be stored when running the NCICs check. In effect the tablet just replaces the forms 4473 that are held at the gun seller until they close, etc. But they are still probably retaining the data against the 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act. IMO, ATF is very high up on that list of Chevron Doctrine violators.

I was at the store and while filling it out the salesman told Me that since they got the tablets it has made life for them much easier because they don’t have to send a fax or deal with paperwork the information is sent in real time and has sped up the process. I asked him if they used the tablet for anything else and he said no. A few minutes after I finished the form he took it down to the other end of the counter saying that we will get a answer in a few minutes. Well about 10 minutes later he walked back to Me and said that it was going to be a day or two before we got an answer because they (fedz) wanted to do a more detailed check.

That’s when I came home and did a self background check that returned I was on a goobermint list...

I refused to pay for the details so I don’t know what list I’m on.

I did get cleared to make the purchase, finally.
