A new national divide is emerging among states over whether to track sales by gun stores

Should gun store sales get special credit card tracking? States split on mandating or prohibiting it.

Beginning Monday, a California law will require credit card networks like Visa and Mastercard to provide banks with special retail codes that can be assigned to gun stores in order to track their sales.

But new laws will do the exact opposite in Georgia, Iowa, Tennessee and Wyoming by banning the use of specific gun shop codes.

The conflicting laws highlight what has quietly emerged as one of the nation’s newest gun policy debates, dividing state capitols along familiar partisan lines.

Tracking only for Democrats. Registered Republicans exempt.

Always pay with cash.

I don't think that I have ever purchased a firearm with a credit card. It's always been with cash.

Granted that Cash is King. But, as we allow FedGov and OWG movement to nudge us more and more towards CBDC models, that may not be possible in the future.
There is NO getting around that these ‘special’ codes for digital transactions (CC and DC) are a thinly veiled attempt to build lists that are, in truth, registries.

No! Tell your state legislators to back off!

You can pay cash but if you buy a gun you’re already tracked. Ammo not so much but any cc transaction is tracked.

It will only work if they prohibit cash sales.

This is so easy.

Why would anyone, in this political climate, buy a gun with anything other than untraceable CASH?

IIRC, this government is prohibited from compiling a gun registry database, period. They aren’t even allowed to keep all of the Forms 4473 that are filed (only when the gun seller goes out of business do those forms go to the government, and that is only so they can track where a specific gun went, i.e., when one is used in a crime ). Special tracking via credit card is the same thing. Hell no.

“Should gun store sales get special credit card tracking?”

Only if the government wants to be able to know where to look for guns when it is time to confiscate them.

We need to return to pre-1968 laws. It was good enough from the beginning of this country in the 1700s till 1968.

Cash and carry. No background check, no waiting period, no forms to fill out.

Chevron deference is repealed. There is no ambiguity in the 2nd Amendment, and states have no authority to override it.

The Inside the NBA segment where Sir Charles goes off-script talking about Jussie Smollett is a classic. In which Barclay strongly recommends Jussie use cash for future endeavors.

Just a funny segment on the general subject.

only when the gun seller goes out of business do those forms go to the government, and that is only so they can track where a specific gun went, i.e., when one is used in a crime or when that type of gun becomes prohibited and they need to confiscate it, or when you become or live with a prohibited person, and they need to take it from you, or when the government decides to publish a list of gun owners and where they live
