A desperate Joe Biden has hit back at the New York Times after it told him to drop out of the presidential race following his disastrous debate.
The Times had previously jointly endorsed two Democratic presidential candidates Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren in 2020 instead of Biden.
A senior adviser to the president told CNN: 'The last time Joe Biden lost the New York Times editorial board's endorsement, it turned out pretty well for him.' Biden would go on to win his party's nomination and defeat Trump in November 2020.
But on Friday the editorial board wrote Biden 'is not the man he was four years ago' and criticized his rationale for running, saying it was a 'reckless gamble'.
Meanwhile the fallout from the debate has left Democratic donors floating the idea of an 'intervention' led by Obama to get the sitting president to see sense after he was widely mocked for his performance against Trump.
There have been discussions with political advisers about arcane rules under which Biden could be removed from the ticket against his will and replaced at or before the Democratic National Convention, according to a person familiar with the effort.
But former US president Barack Obama defended Biden in a Twitter post on Friday.
'Bad debate nights happen,' he wrote. 'But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.'
In an article titled 'To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race', the New York Times blasted his continued attempts to run as a 'reckless gamble' with the country's future.
They said that the country needed 'a stronger opponent' to stand in the way of the 'significant jeopardy to... democracy' - a threat characterised by the Republican leader.

WRONG! Biden is the man he was four years ago. Biden is the man he was in 1991. He hasn't changed.
A small bi-partisan delegation (6 max) will form and go visit Joe in the White House. After a couple of hours, they will emerge, and in front of a cluster of mikes set up in the droveway, thy will say talks were frank and productive. Then, they will go away.
A few days later Joe will retire with great honors, and much ruffles and flourishes and honorific displays.

We all know the answer. Joe is a puppet that’s doing as he’s told. If he goes the unelected people running the show lose unaccountable power. Joe may not live through a 2nd term but having him rubber stamping idiocy is too much to give up if someone else actually decides they want to be President for real.
Obummer has been the puppetmaster all along. He said on camera that he would like 8 more years pulling the strings but not seen.
There were plenty of videos of him 4 years ago having the same issues.
Biden may be having a nervous breakdown or mild stroke. His wife is Nurse Rachet in One Flew over the White House.

Former doctor to Obama, Trump calls on Biden to resign: ‘National security issue’

President Biden likely suffers from a “cognitive disease” and should not only drop out of the presidential race but resign immediately, according to the former White House physician and current Republican Congressman who served former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
“This is a national security issue,” Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson told The Post after Biden’s disastrous debate performance. “As an American, I think he needs to step down and he needs to be immediately removed from office.”
Before entering politics, Jackson served as Obama’s personal physician between 2013 and 2016.
He served as Trump’s between 2016 and 2018.
Trump raised Jackson’s name during the Thursday debate, when the issue of their respective cognitive functions was raised.
Jackson, a former Navy rear admiral, said Biden’s confused and halting performance during the debate was clear evidence he is suffering from more than just normal aging.
“There is a condition. I don’t know what it is. I am not going to give him a diagnosis. It is more than just age. It is some type of cognitive disease,” Jackson said. “I don’t know if it’s Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, I don’t know what it is. There are a lot of diseases out there when folks get older which can cause cognitive decline.”
Jackson previously called on Biden to take a cognitive test — something Biden has not done as president.
“You aren’t going to hear me talk about cognitive tests anymore. He got one [Thursday] night in front of millions of viewers and he failed miserably,” Jackson told The Post.

I have heard some NC democrats say that Jill is furiously negotiating a plan whereby Joe drops out of the race but stays on as POTUS until Jan 20. They say Jill wants to keep most of the money that has been raised — or — she wants a huge payout “to care for Joe and his legacy.” This is in addition to guarantees for a hugely funded Presidential Library in Delaware.
The other story is that Kamala is demanding Joe resign so Kamala becomes POTUS for about seven months, even if she doesn’t seek the 2024 nomination.
(Kamala would then get $XXXX to run for California Governor and a “guaranteed” clear path to the state nomination, free of pesky democrat competitors)
Can’t you just visualize both sides piling up desks and file cabinets forming battle lines in the White House. Should be an interesting weekend...

Steve Bannon suggested on Megyn Kelly’s show yesterday that the only “man” for the job of telling Biden to step down is Nancy Pelosi.
I don’t think he’s wrong.
