Republicans are lashing out at CNN anchor Jake Tapper for his supposed efforts to "save" President Joe Biden during the first of two scheduled debates with former President Donald Trump...
...Tapper and CNN are also frequently accused by Republicans of harboring an anti-Trump bias, although both Trump and Biden agreed to the conditions of the debate, which include time limits for each candidate to speak, before it took place on Thursday.
Biden seemingly lost his train of thought during the debate on Thursday while speaking about his plans for spending money saved by reversing Trump-era tax cuts that he said "benefited the very wealthy."
"We'd be able to wipe out his debt," Biden said. "We'd be able to help make sure all those things we need to do: child care, elder care, making sure that we continue to strengthen our health care system."
"Making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the ... with the COVID, excuse me, with um, dealing with everything we have to with, uh ..." he continued. "Look, if we finally beat Medicare ..."
Tapper, who moderated the debate alongside co-anchor Dana Bash, was criticized by some for cutting the president off just after he mentioned Medicare.
"Thank you President Biden," Tapper said while Biden was seemingly mid-sentence. "President Trump?"
Trump responded with the following: "Well, he's right, he did beat Medicare. He beat it to death, and he's destroying Medicare."
Newsweek reached out for comment to the Biden campaign via email on Thursday night.
"@jaketapper saves Joe Biden again!" former Trump administration official Richard Grenell wrote in a post to X, formerly Twitter. "Biden glitched - he was mumbling. A real debate moderator would have jumped on it to 'what did you say?' Jake ends it and saves him."

You know, if Biden wants to “beat Medicare,” maybe he’s not as bad as I thought. What other big government programs does he want to beat?
Trump did great with it though:

And Trump is right. The Dem regime is beating BOTH medicare and social security to death. They hand social security and medicare/ medicaid to everyone who freely crosses the regime’s open border in addition to housing and endless subsidies.
We don't need government programs beat down in Cloward-Piven style. We need them legislated and regulated away along with taxing us less so we take care of most of our own problems.

It didn’t matter. Everyone could see that Biden was not all there.
What are the chances of any of that happen?
After Biden made his stupid statement you could see the dimmest spark that even Biden realized his mouth outstripped his brain and he needed to correct himself, but Tapper cut him off to avoid giving Brandon the opportunity to dig his hole any deeper, and the timing of Tapper's cutoff cued it up perfectly for Trump's reply.
It looked like jake was glad to interrupt but was it at the correct moment when biden’s time had run out? Both moderators were quick to cap off the time outs, which is fine if it’s done equally.
I’ll be tapper was glad he called Trump President Trump.
I actually thought both of the CNN moderators did a pretty fair job on the debate.

So, did Biden blow up? Did he implode during this debate?
No, he did not implode - but was it a disaster for Biden and for the Democrats?
Yes, absolutely. Yes, I would actually argue that it would have been better if Biden had imploded during this debate.
At the beginning of the debate, it looked like Biden would crumble. It looked like he was about to to fall apart, and then Jake Tapper came in and saved him.
The moderator from CNN - he saved Biden, but it looked like Biden was was ready right at the beginning of the debate to lose it.
He was mumbling and about to freeze, and it looked like it was all over - and then Jake Tapper stepped in and he saved Biden.
But the rest of the debate was Biden looking confused, stumbling - often saying some weird things and looking very very slow - very slow and confused.
And his facial reactions - his body language - looked really bad and it was a catastrophe.
It was a catastrophe.
It would have been better if the Band-Aid had just been ripped off, if he imploded.
Band-Aid rips off and and the Democrats can then say okay, Dr. Jill Biden, Biden family, Biden handlers - it's over.
Take a look. And they would have admitted, yes, you're right - it's over. We can't go on any longer.
Let's find someone else before the convention in Chicago.
But now you're going to have Dr. Jill Biden and Biden's handlers - they're going to still hold out some hope that Biden can make it to November. That he can serve a second term.
And now it's going to take some convincing from the big families in the Democrat Party - the Clinton Clan, the Obama Clan, Schumer, Pelosi - they're going to have to convince Dr. Jill, his wife.
I believe that's the person that they have to go to. They're gonna have to convince her that it's over - we need someone else.

Perhaps I’m wrong...it seemed, before the first commercial break, that Biden would provide short responses, not using the all the time allotted. He would just stop talking, then it was Trump’s turn. After the commercial break, the moderators would say, if Biden stopped mumbling early, “you have X-number of seconds left, what do you think about this”? Helping Biden to use the time he had remaining.
I’ll have to look at it again.
It’s enjoyable, so I don’t mind. :)
Instead just moving on with the next question.
Also, they asked Trump about Jan 6, and in turn they should have asked Biden about the 51 Intel officers who said the laptop was Russian disinformation. Not asking a question about blatant election interference by intelligence officials, solicited by Anthony Blinkin, some still on the government payroll, would suggest real bias in favor of Biden. They lose by omission.
Trump himself brought it up but it should have been addressed.
I will say that the moderators did not contradict Trump and let him speak off topic which was a first.

If the trainwreck that we saw last night is the result of Jake Tapper “saving” Biden or in some other way helping or assisting him, then I gotta say: SAVE AWAY, JAKE!!!
Because Biden’s utter meltdown would be a beautiful thing to behold (but for the fact that it’s scary as hell that this demented old coot is the titular commander in chief)
I noticed it. The moderator was controlling and directing Biden all through the debate. When ever Biden would began to go wonky the moderator would say “Thank you President Biden” and then move on.
