Those who hoped that our leaders have recovered from China Derangement Syndrome (CDS) may soon be disappointed. This is because Congress is considering including legislation targeting Chinese drone manufacturer DJI to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). DJI is the world’s largest drone manufacturer and is estimated to control between 65% and 90% of the world’s drone market. DJI’s drones are user-friendly and can safely be operated even by novice drone users.

“MILAN — Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the country's forces are leaning heavily on Chinese DJI drones in the defense of their country, a claim that the manufacturer has since declared was news to them.Oct 23, 2023”
Countering CCP Drones Act
“prevent future purchases of DJI products”
“revoking existing authorizations for DJI drones” possible
Drones for First Responders Act
“50% tariff” on Chinese drones
For an honest discussion we should at least mention the security concerns that have been raised concerning DJI...
I own and fly a DJI Mini drone.
I can so swear and attest that it exports data to ‘the cloud.’ I take pics of sunsets, construction projects and roofs. No risks for me.
Others? Yeah, I can see why some with a commercial Part 107 FAA license might be ‘sharing’ useful data and images.
I have a BWINE myself that I am finally getting around to using some and got the FAA 107.
There was a really good deal on Amazon for the one I have at the time over comparable models.
It stands up to me getting the hang of the controls.
Portfolio building is sort of in progress.
I view any ChiCom made product, including my own cell phone, as being a potential tool to gather intelligence for the ChiComs.
And I include damn near anything made over there the same way. It is who they are. And we better get on board with that soon as a nation.
General Robert Spalding, USAF (Ret.) former B-2 Pilot who learned Mandarin in a year, and while on active duty, went to China in the early 2000’s to get a business degree. He did it at the behest of the USAF, openly, as a commissioned officer, so he knows of what he speaks.
He was the cyber specialist to the JCS, was a member of the NSC, and got canned from his job for making such a public stink about allowing the ChiComs to build our 5G networks (and those of our allies) that he was fired.
I have no doubt how he views this kind of thing, and I would concur.
The article reprsents an example of why I am a Conservative and not a American Libertarian. American Libertarians ignore the real world and think a single country like ours can do everything in a “Libertarian” sense, which only means all the nations which are not Libertarian (99%) get our advantages here while we get none there.
You could use the same logic about so-called “free traders”.
Money ahead of anything sensible. I lump this along with the stupidity of the Chinese making our pharmaceuticals, pet food, and worse human food. Bad enough is car parts, appliances, etc. Just about every market. And in my estimation a huge hole is that 49% of a product can be foreign made, yet have a “Made in USA” label. Ridiculous, and very dangerous.
You, my FRiend, are looking at the wrong bad actor here. What on earth interest would the CCP have in snooping on you via a Chicom manufactured device? Your true enemy here, the DC IC, has every reason to utilize any device you might come in contact with as part of their ongoing effort to spy on MAGA Constitutionalist DVEs, like you and me.
“You could use the same logic about so-called “free traders”.”
And who might they be???
That's delusional. IF you're a business INSIDE China, you're controlled by the CCP.
GJ on the 107.
IMHO, drones are really comparable now for commercial/ industrial use.
Sure some of the leading edge FPVs have differentiators, but otherwise (1) can YOU fly it well, (2) good enough battery life, (3) good enough camera(s), and (4) good enough file mgmt and photo editing.
The rest is marketing.
Marketing has always been the weak point. Technical has never really been a problem. I learned from some very good people back in my public TV days in the 90s.
I produced a few hundred stock clips that are still up on Pond5, Shutterstock, and Adobe. They used to be a somewhat decent bit of extra money. I liked producing for myself. Sometimes I hired local talent and met a few very good ones I would use anytime.
Every so often something does sell. There is so much saturation now plus commissions don’t pay anywhere near as well as they did. I pretty much stopped producing then.
So far what I’ve done with the BWINE I really can’t complain.
I usually take it up to the country for testing on weekends.
The test was really not much. It took me about 10 minutes. I spent another 5 or 10 reviewing and changed maybe 3 answers. I made a 92.
I took what turned out to be a good online drone operator course, did the test simulators and read the grade reports some. I also consulted a few of the higher rated Youtube channels that helped clarify a couple of things.
A week before the test I did the exam simulators maybe two or three times a day at random times every day. I wanted to pass. The study paid off.
“Libertarian”
Yeah right.
