What to Know About the Surgeon General’s Health Advisory on Gun Violence

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued a health advisory on Tuesday declaring gun violence a public health crisis as a wave of mass shootings throughout the U.S. escalates concerns over the fast-growing death and injury tolls attributable to guns.

“Firearm violence is an urgent public health crisis that has led to loss of life, unimaginable pain, and profound grief for far too many Americans,” Murthy said in a statement. “We don’t have to continue down this path, and we don’t have to subject our children to the ongoing horror of firearm violence in America. All Americans deserve to live their lives free from firearm violence, as well as from the fear and devastation that it brings. It will take the collective commitment of our nation to turn the tide on firearm violence.” ………..

Firearm violence disproportionately affects certain communities. Black youth account for approximately half of all firearm-related youth deaths, according to figures from health policy research organization KFF, despite making up only 14% of the total youth population. By contrast, white adults age 45 years and older have the highest rate of suicide from firearms, while American Indian and Alaska Native people had the highest firearm suicide rate for people under the age of 45.

“ Firearms became the leading cause of death among U.S. children and adolescents in 2020. From 2012 to 2022, the firearm-related suicide rate increased 45% among children 15 to 24 years of age and 68% among children ages 10 to 14, according to the CDC.”

They lump murders, suicides and accidental deaths by firearms so that the numbers are greater than accidental by other events.

Stay with me....this "story" is possibly part of a tactical, coordinated, long-term plan to distort the record on firearms data.

There was a story in December 2022 that the CDC reportedly removed statistics on defensive gun use in the U.S. following pressure from gun control advocates..

"[T]hat 2.5 Million number needs to be killed, buried, dug up, killed again and buried again," Mark Bryant, executive director of the Gun Violence Archive, wrote to the CDC in one of the emails. "It is highly misleading, is used out of context and I honestly believe it has zero value — even as an outlier point in honest DGU discussions."

I dug in at that time. Mark Bryant has his own proprietary, COMPETING dataset of firearms incidents.. Aaaaand guess which database that is? You guessed it, gunviolencearchive.org-which underpins this "story".

Further, Slate is also behind this "database".

In a nutshell, the CDC stopped tracking this data. In steps the (clearly biased) Mark Bryant / Slate "database" as the "press" is herded like cattle to this trough. Right on schedule, a nice piece of manure with lipstick comes via the MSM.

Parenthetically, Mark's data swamp isn't accessible if you have a vpn....hmmm.....

motor vehicle deaths were about 42,000.,br. so homicides, suicides, and car crashes together don't equal drug od's.
