- Russia says US is responsible for strike on Crimea.
- Ukraine struck Crimea with U.S.-supplied ATACMS.
- Russia says U.S. personnel input flight coordinates.
- Russia says at least three people killed, 124 injured.

MOSCOW, June 23 (Reuters) - Russia said on Sunday that the United States was responsible for a Ukrainian attack on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula with five U.S.-supplied missiles that killed at least five people including three children and injured 124 more. The Russian Defence Ministry said four of the U.S.-delivered Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, equipped with cluster warheads, were shot down by air defence systems and the ammunition of a fifth had detonated in mid-air. The ministry said U.S. specialists had set the missiles' flight coordinates on the basis of information from U.S. spy satellites, meaning Washington was directly responsible. "Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on the civilians of Sevastopol is borne above all by Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, and by the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this strike was carried out," the ministry said.

When Zelenskyy uses a US rocket with a dirty bomb to to blow up the Kremlin and make it uninhabitable for 1,000 years. When the new Russian President orders Kiev totally destroyed with a small nuke—Biden will go to congress, give a great speech and order a declaration of war. To stop Mad Putin (near death from radiation burns) before he can invade Europe. All Americans will get behind the new war to save the world for democracy and the American Dollar. Seeing American Anger, China and North Korea will bow out and only Iran will stay with a Russia beset by Civil war. WW III Over in three months. German-Poles will take Moscow and Leningrad. America and Israel will take out Iran and free Ukraine from Russia. Biden will prove a great wartime president. Peace by March 2025. (sic)

The Russian fleet was using Ukrainian ports in Crimea pre-2014 by agreement with Ukraine. The Sebastopol bases were Russian military enclaves inside Ukrainian territory.

Why was this not a sufficient arrangement? It had been the status quo for over 20 years.

If the population of Crimea had wanted Crimea to return to Russian control, they could have peacefully lobbied for that, and for a referendum to prove their case during that 20 years. As far as I know there was never such an initiative in all that time.

Indeed, Russia could have openly supported such a civic initiative and lobbied for it internationally, and/or offered to negotiate a change of arrangements with Ukraine, such as an outright purchase, subject to a referendum. There was nothing like that.

“Russia says U.S. is responsible for deadly Ukrainian attack on Crimea”

Note that the headline says “U.S.”, rather than Biden. It appears to me that you guys use more poll-tested terminology to gaslight than even the Russia.

Ah, I see. So Poland was a “honey pot” for “global elites” back when they joined NATO in 1999. The Poles might be surprised to hear this.

Most of us commonly ignore your inane pro-Biden posts; however, you would think that Zelensky could at least give you Sunday off.

In my opinion Russia has been too soft. It’s probably a good thing I’m not a ‘world leader’ because I would ignore all the nervous-nancies and go full scorched earth. More Sherman, less Putin. Far more people get killed by fighting wars to suit the sensibilities of the kumbaya crowd... better to get in quick and finish it.

This evening, Ukrainian forces successfully struck the Russian NIP-16 space tracking and communication center in Vitino, Crimea with multiple MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.

Yup, US missiles are incredibly precise, striking military targets, unlike Russian weapons, which is why there are tens of thousands of Russian vacationers in Crimea, a war zone.

Some Russians happy to holiday in sunny Crimea despite blasts- Aug 17, 2022

Russian tourists took advantage of the heat and sun on Wednesday to enjoy a summer vacation in Crimea, saying they were not worried by blasts that rocked military bases earlier in the week.

NATO shouldn’t have even existed in 1999... the Warsaw Pact didn’t. Far better to have a neutral central Europe than a planet on fire.

“Biden” is a temporary figurehead of a current administration. US policy in all this was established long ago, by other administrations, and maintained throughout several changes in administration.

It is the US state structure carrying out these policies.

So “US” is the correct term.

Over here in Europe it is normal to say “US” and not “Biden”. Thats how the world sees it.

And Russia is responsible for a deadly attack on Ukraine. So, what goes around comes around.

Ah yes! Russia was completely unprovoked and are evil goblins who just like killing folks. I’m starting to miss the old cold war... at least then we had principles to hang our hats on and not just hob-goblins screeching in the night.

Russia existed in 1999, and countries like Poland deeply distrusted Russia. The creature had changed, but not by that much. The Poles and etc. were not wrong.

Nato was moribund in 2022, as most Euro countries had cut their militaries and military infrastructure to the bone. US forces in Europe were in a minimal state. Facts that your side in this argument loves to point out - whenever it suits their argument. Its absurd to argue that there was a NATO threat in 2022. This is a Russian pretext.

Moreover Russian influence in Europe was riding high at the time. Biden (or “the US”) had just approved Nordstream II, after years of several US administrations opposing it, much to the delight of the German SPD.

Independent countries have a right to join any economic or military alliances, or are you arguing that the eastern European countries(Ukraine, Poland, Baltics, etc) should always be under Russian control?

NATO was unnecessary in 1999 and it’s unnecessary now. The notion that Poland is in danger of some kind of new Frederick the Great style partition is ludicrous... Finland has burned Russian fingertips so many times I seriously doubt Russia has any ambitions there. We need to stop living in the nightmares of our ancestors and learn to live in the word we have now.

Yeah. If I were you I’d go up to those old gun emplacements on the North side of the bridge where the Terminator went to fight that ... uh... AI robot.

Enjoy that one last sunset.

You could be keeping an eye on Colorado Springs; if it goes up in smoke you’d have 10 or hell maybe 15 seconds to get there XD.

Military alliances usually result as a reaction to the ambitions of neighbors... think of the alliances formed against Bonaparte. Since the fall of the USSR I’ve seen no coherent rationale to justify maintaining an alliance against the Russian Federation.... except those normal precautions states take in relation to each other. Certainly nothing that justifies a wealth destroying continental alliance.

Russians are peculiarly vulnerable to getting taken over by brutal and corrupt rulers. Its ground in to Russian society and culture, by a tragic history.

These rulers are highly likely to turn to external adventures, by the dynamics of such regimes. Thus the nature of the USSR was only in part the result of its ideology, the rest was Russia as it always was.

Ref “Russia Under the Old Regime”, Richard Pipes, 1974
Which I read in the 80’s.

And that WAS one of the “bibles” of the Cold War, cited by everyone. Here are your Cold War principles.
