In Atlanta to promote the Biden administration’s efforts to quell the import of illegal drugs into the U.S., Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced new sanctions against members of a Mexican drug cartel accused of trafficking fentanyl, cocaine, meth and migrants through the southern border.

Included in the sanctions are eight members of the La Nueva Familia Michoacana drug cartel, a notoriously violent group that wars for territorial control with a slate of other Mexican cartels.

Also Thursday, Yellen issued an advisory to banks to help them identify and report suspicious transactions related to the sale an purchase of chemicals and equipment used to manufacture fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.

Trump definitely has the Biden Organization playing defense full time.

Unfortunately, the election is still almost five months away.

And, there is no guarantee Biden will still be the candidate.

It sounds a bit like telling Al Capone he has to stop smoking cigars.

Why does the pessimist in me tell me that if this old witch is involved with this, it’s at the behest of whoever is really controlling, distributing and reaping the profits from fentanyl sales?

Wanna have a real impact on all that drug traffic cash? CHANGE IT OUT. Make new bills and make everyone turn in their old for new. The problem is that they wouldn’t be able to decide on which black martyr, hero, activist would be pictured on them. They’d settle on George Foreman in the end, IMO.

Help me out here, if you please.

Would not such sanctions be the responsibility of SOC rather than Sec Treas?

It's been many decades since I've taken HS civics, so maybe I've either forgotten, or things have changed.

This is how it was under 0bama.

DEA laundering millions of dollars for the drug cartels by setting up bank accounts for them that they otherwise couldn't do.

Is it different under Joetato?

Also under 0bama ...

It went beyond Fast and Furious and assault rifles to cartels ...

grenades, RPGs, shoulder fired rockets, anti-aircraft guns, night vision equipment, body armor and special deals to bring their drugs onto our soil with legal impunity?

Verily. This isn’t serious. If they were serious, they’d label the cartels as terrorist organizations. I’d go even further. Do what we did after the war to the Nazi Organizations like the SS, SA, Gestapo and the rest. Declare them international outlaws and every member is subject to arrest.

The only sanction that could make any difference is a 100-mile free-fire zone on the Mexican border, and frequent punitive raids on cartel estates. They are easy to find.

If the Mexican military forces get in the way, then kill them too. The cartels are the government of northern Mexico, and increasingly control the state governments in Arizona, California, and New Mexico.

This gets settled by war, one way or another. We are not really fighting, but the cartels are fighting. They have been completely successful with a combination of bribery and assassinations of Mexican politicians. That is the future for us unless we do something effective to change things.
