Fox News Poll: Three-point shift in Biden-Trump matchup since May
Fox News ^ | June 19, 2024 | Dana Blanton

President Biden is the frontrunner in a hypothetical matchup against former President Trump for the first time since October, as positive views of the economy inch up — hitting their highest level thus far in the Biden presidency, according to a new Fox News national survey.

Since May, there was a 3-point change in the presidential race. Trump was ahead by 1 point last month, while Biden is up by 2 points today: 50%-48%. That’s well within the margin of error.

Beyond improved evaluations of the economy, a range of other events since the May survey could influence small shifts in vote preference, including Trump’s hush money conviction, Hunter Biden’s gun trial conviction, a positive U.S. jobs report and Biden’s immigration executive order.

Biden’s current 50% support is his best this election cycle; he hasn’t been ahead of Trump since October 2023 and that was by just 1 point (49%-48%).

There was also a 4-point shift in the expanded ballot. When other potential candidates are included, Biden tops Trump by 1 point (43%-42%), Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. receives 10% and Cornel West and Jill Stein get 2% each. Last month, Trump was ahead of Biden by 3 points (43%-40%).

--snip Voters trust Trump on two of the top five issues: immigration (by 9 points) and the economy (+5). However, those are narrower advantages than he enjoyed in May (+15 immigration and +13 economy). He’s also preferred on handling the Israel-Hamas war (+4). More trust Biden to do a better job on health care (+10) and the future of American democracy (+6), while his biggest advantages are on the somewhat lesser priorities of abortion (+13) and climate change (+20).

--snip "we saw notable erosion of Trump’s advantage on the economy and immigration" [says Anderson]

Its also interesting that The Daily Beast, or some similar outfit, had an article out earlier this week reporting on the Biden campaign team’s belief that “protecting democracy against Trump” would be their lead positive issue. As Rich Baris noted on Twitter, you don’t see this in any other poll as an issue but somehow two days later, Fox finds it to be the prime issue for Biden in this poll. Coincidence? I doubt it.

They’re evidently going to ride the “January 6th” horse until it falls over dead.

You would think 80 percent of the people who will vote are decided and the 20 percent will float somewhere by the time it is all over.

What makes up these voters. I would think lack of knowledge, issue not being met, do not like politics etc. It will be important for President Trump to reach these people with the correct message and tone.

Dick Morris used to be good at this part with Bill Clinton, and Clinton was able to play the part he had to play to reach these voters.

I would think the best approach with this 20 percent would for Real President Trump to talk to them as you would a third grader. Keeping it simple, listen to what they have to say acknowledging their value. Likeability is important to them.

On a side note. to swing the women vote just say you won’t send their kid to war, you will make the streets safe and you will bring the price of food down.

And I still think you should make use of JFK JR by debating him and having the Trump campaign tag him as the legitimate Democratic candidate.

The presidential poll released by Fox News on October 30, 2020 had Biden 52% Trump 44%. The actual results were Biden 51.3% Trump 46.8%. So the Fox poll could be giving Biden 1% more support and Trump 3% less support. If the June Fox poll is Biden 50% Trump 48%, I think the actual result would be Biden 48% Trump 51% if there is no third party candidate.

That assumes they have made no changes to their methods. That’s not a good assumption.

"President Biden is the frontrunner in a hypothetical matchup against former President Trump for the first time since October"

Election fraud requires close polls.

With this Fox News poll it looks like the decision has been made not to replace Biden on the ballot.
