Everyone is posting that the annualized number is about $1.059 trillion.
However the interest on the debt for just May 2024 was $103 billion. Debt will grow another $2 trillion or more in the next 12 months.
We are already on pace for over $1.2 trillion in annualized payments on the debt. Within the next few years, interest on the debt will exceed Social Security payments and become the largest item in the budget.

40 years, we went from spending $1 trillion dollars on the entire federal budget to spending $1 trillion dollars on the interest on the debt of the federal government.

And every penny of that has been spent and no longer exists. Don't kid yourself: Your parents' SS/Medicare came straight out of your pocket. Any SS/Medicare you may receive is coming straight out of some younger peoples' pockets.
Half of Federal Outlays, roughly, are a Ponzi Scheme sustained by Fedzilla's ability to create "money" from nothing. Any attempt to get government spending under control that doesn't FIRST get government out of the Ponzi Scheme business, is just blather and drivel. Hot air. Meaningless babble.
It’s easy to explain to people how total wages are approx 12 trillion per year, national debt nearly 3x this much, interest rates over 5%, they can see that Uncle Sam is needing to get 15% of all wages to pay Interest on the Debt, and they know that they’ll be paying for it somehow.
And if and when they ever implement this it will be mandatory death injections aka "inoculations" and feeding biosludge to to men and women forced to fight for the Deep doo doo State.

But the future generations who will be burdened with paying for it do not. They are being naively deceived and misled by the very liberals they vote for as to the inevitable consequences.

If Trump was successful in getting rid of a meaningful part of the bureaucracy, that would make it problematic for them to "size down." Which makes them even more terrified of that happening.
When they changed to the euro from Dmarks my father in law was offered a 2:1 swap for his dmarks in the bank.
That happened all over Germany.
If they made a new American dollar tied to viable assets and offered a 2:1 swap to start the new currency, it would help offset any “losses” at start up with the value of the new dollar to other currencies on the world market.
Maybe????
