Disney (use to be) the most magical place on earth. Any entertainment venue in the last 50 years has learned how to do it from Disney. I feel bad for those people who cannot let go and be amazed at just how wonderful and unique Disney is or was. Yes Im disgusted with what they have become, but at least they still hide their freaks in costumes unlike going to a starbucks where you are forced to communicate with that thing across the counter masquerading as some sort of human. With country music on the buses and parks and alchohol in the resorts, it has lost its magic and becoming just another place. Poor kids have no place to go where their so called parents cant go a week without the stinkin bottle or stupid music, and where adults can relive the innocence of being a child again. If thats not worth going into a little debt for, what is?

Funny story- my dad and mom took us to Disney when Space Mountain opened for the first time. We waited in line and when we were up, my sister and I sat side by side and our dad sat behind us.

The ride was mostly in the dark and when we would go down a big drop, our dad would scream “HOLLLLLDDDDD OOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN!!!!” and with the acoustics, we thought he had fallen out and we screamed and cried the entire time. He thought we were scared of the ride and kept on screaming HOLLLLDDD ONNNNNN with every drop and we kept thinking he was falling out.

Good times! We still laugh about that!

The ecstasy is in more in the anticipation, rather than the thing itself.

Fine, but why not do it with Mr. Rogers and friends like Daniel the Tiger instead of the better known Disney characters?

Fortunately, a lot of parents have figured it out and no longer want to do a Disney World vacation. Not at over US$100 per person per day park entrance fee.

A lot of people charge costs for a vacation, regardless of the destination. If you’re going to rent a house or make hotel and other reservations, you pretty much have to use a credit card, even if you’re going to pay the bill in full when you get it.

I don’t see why “Disney” is relevant.

I have never taken a vacation that I couldn’t afford. We saved until we could go without worrying. That way you can actually relax and have fun.

I’m amazed at the number of people who put things that aren’t necessities on credit cards. They should be there for when things happen suddenly, like car or plumbing problems.

Sending thousands to stand in line hours for a carnival ride, what better use of scarce money?

That's their own stupid fault.

If you choose to go into debt for a *vacation* that costs that much, don't complain about the consequences.

I’ve been to Disneyland twice, once in 1965 with my parents and siblings and once in 2005 with my wife. Not due again until 2045, if I’m still alive at 90.

The days of Disneyland being reasonably priced are long gone.

Now it is incredibly expensive -

“One-day, one-park admission starts at $104 for adults and $98 for kids ages 3 to 9.”

So for a family of four, two kids under 9 - it’s over $400 just to walk through the gate for one day - not including any other amenities.

Glad I grew up in the “good old days,” we’d go once a year - my dad would have never taken us to Disneyland for that price (there were five of us, more with our cousins).

My husband spoke wistfully of Knoebels, and we were just looking at some old family photos from there.

At Knott’s Berry farm, there were picnic tables so we’d always bring our own food. Not sure if it’s allowed at Disneyland, old maps show picnic areas, now long gone - even in the “old cheap days” when my family went - my mother would make lunch/dinner for us, put it in a cooler - and we’d go out to the car to eat. It was better than the overprice slop served inside.

I didn't even go into debt to go to medical school!

Going into debt is like taking the canoe out with the tide and coming back against it.

Not...for...free

To watch a parade of drag queens? This is just sick and getting more so.

The best part of central florida tourism? Kennedy Space Center and it’s real.

Last time I went to Disney World was 1988 and then I found out how they cater to the employees that are gay. Great employment for child molesters. Polk County Sherriff’s office runs stings all the time and they always snare several Disney employees. I doubt they lose their jobs and most likely get a pay raise.
