CHICAGO - Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announced an executive order Monday to establish a reparations task force and agenda aimed at addressing historical injustices against the African American community.

The task force will develop a definition and framework for reparations, identifying areas for restorative action such as housing, education, jobs, and criminal justice. It is also responsible for conducting a comprehensive study to catalog policies that have harmed African Americans in Chicago, including controversial real estate practices like redlining and restrictive covenants.

Johnson made the announcement during a Juneteenth flag-raising ceremony at Daley Plaza.

"Reparations will be an investment in our neighborhoods and our people," Johnson said. "It will unlock the doors of prosperity to fully flow through the neighborhoods that have been disinvested in for days...we must never forget our goal to make sure reparations become a reality for Black residents of this city.

They’ll come up with a number that is 2-3x their max yearly budget. Something that is wildly unworkable. And they’ll have no honest reasonable plan at how to find funds.

He doesn’t grasp it yet, but if you were a Fortune-500 company in Illinois.....I’d look at the comment and start planning an exit for the company from the state.

The people who really support this path...would be the drug-cartel guys...hoping this would occur and a bunch of folks would be checks for $50,000 to blow on drugs.

Yep.

I have an idea. Let’s count their welfare money, SNAP benefits, section 8, free medical/medicaid, free education, stipends, disability payments and every single other freebie they have gotten and apply it against whatever they think they are owed.

Also, if they would get anything, they are no longer ‘victims’ and no longer can EVER get anything from the gov’t again.

Hopefully all of the section 8 housing types to left Chicago to go to Rockford, Aurora, and DeKalb will all head back to Chicago to get their slice of the reparations pie. And not come back.

The role of government should be focused on providing necessary services for its general population (i.e., all residents) instead of a favored constituency.

Maybe just because the Federal Government is giving all that free stuff to illegals thanks to tax payers the Democrats in the blue cities figure they might as well grab their share of the booty.

If Pedo Joe gets reappointed then reparations become a federal issue requiring MASSIVE federal spending. This move by Chicago is just to get the correct people on board for when the money starts to flow from DC

Sounds like reparations for slavery is really catching on as a liberal cause.

California did some study of reparations and came up with a bloated dollar amount that should be paid out. But apparently it’s on hold because of the severe budget problems of the State of California.

They’re trying to tell us that we still see the legacy of slavery today 159 years after the end of slavery.

If reparations are ever paid out, that will not be the end of it. It is very predictable that whatever dollar amount might be arrived at, someone somewhere , such as Al Sharpton type agitators, will claim that it just isn’t enough money.

Then there will be ensuing arguments about how much is enough to really make up for slavery.

Corporations want Reparations because they know they’ll end up with all the money, when all is said and done.

My guess is that Chicago will figure out a way to tap the U.S. taxpayer. I.e., they'll get their hands on federal dollars. I.e., like all good democrats/socialists/communists, they'll use other peoples money - UNTIL IT RUNS OUT!
