Female Trouble for the Right: The Widening Gender Gap

The “gender gap” has been a reality of American voting behavior for over 40 years. And more than ever, polls show men leaning rightward and women leaning even harder leftward. Female resentments lately have hinged on one word above all others: Trump.

According to a Quinnipiac University Poll released this April, women preferred Joe Biden to Donald Trump by 52 percent to 41 percent, while men preferred Trump to Biden by 52 percent to 39 percent. Women aren’t all that enthusiastic about Biden. But they’ll dutifully vote for the old coot if it means putting Trump out of commission. As Leesburg, Virginia resident Nanette Mees put it last fall: “I don’t think that [Biden] is the perfect one. But if I have to pick between him and Trump, who I would never, ever, ever vote for, it would be Biden...

If Trump is elected this November, she and other women might cry. Recall the outpouring of feminine grief at Hillary Clinton headquarters in New York during the wee hours of Election Night 2016, realizing their candidate was going to lose to Trump.

What is it about Trump that enrages so many women? The answer may lie in an inherent contradiction within feminine behavior.

Females, as evolutionary biologists and psychologists such as Edward Dutton, Jonathan Haidt, and Steven Pinker have noted with great insight, are attracted to males who project power, confidence, and responsibility. For the sake of themselves and future offspring, women want a natural leader for a mate.

Yet they also possess an empathetic, egalitarian instinct that favors inclusion over exclusion in a group context. Nobody should feel left out. Those who would withhold prizes or otherwise jeopardize the participants’ emotional “safety” deserve a scolding. And women know how to scold.

It would be interesting to know this. When a squeegee kid comes by to wash windows for cash in the middle of traffic - does the man respond with “get a job” and the woman is the one that gives them money.

If I was unclear I just meant - and this is conjecture - women might be more likely to give money to the homeless street person than men.

Maybe they smarten up when they get punched in the face by a “no bail- no jail” criminal who laughs at them.

The Bidenites talk inclusivity, but they are persecuting their opponents and throwing people in jail. Biden is always pretending he's better than he is. Trump isn't afraid to sometimes play at being worse than he is. Some people understand that and some people don't.
