A rare flu variant that has shown some resistance to the most commonly used antiviral treatment has been detected in at least two people in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Influenza viruses are constantly changing, but this variant has two concerning mutations in places that could lower the effectiveness of treatment with oseltamivir phosphate, known by the brand name Tamiflu.

“There’s active global surveillance going on looking for these mutations,” said Dr. Andy Pekosz, a virologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. “We want to know when they come up, because that could really have major implications for how we treat influenza.”

For now, though, experts say the threat is low.

Oh no!!!!

The only proven effect of Tamiflu on influenza is that it reduces the number of days in hospital from 6 to 5.

Given that how will we ever survive????

Tamiflu. Oh please.

The renal toxicity alone cancels it.

People just do not want to trust the healing properties of their own body.

Vitamin. Sun. Get off the processed food/poison. You get a hint of the flu the stop. Rest. Drink fluids and quit acting like the word depends on you and do not go to work and spread it stay the f home.

Some antivirals do partially work with some forms of virii.

The TWOTs in charge corrupt this scientific fact as a reason to lock down and force mailin ballots.

WOW! Those pesky variants always have a habit of coming out of the dark 6 to 5 months before an election…seems they’re smarter than the average American!

Next up ...

The CDC reports a virulent strain of Cooties has been detected
in the US affecting a small but growing population of Grade School children.

Pfizer is working on a new MNRA vaccine and should be ready by the start of the school year. The vaccine will be required as necessary for admission for children to enter school.

Hey, if we just make Biden King of the US we wouldn’t have to bother ourselves with those silly elections.

Back in the day, amantadine and rimantidine were highly effective for influenza A, but all strains were highly resistant by 1990.

Tamiflu (oseltamivir) has NEVER matched the effectiveness of the earlier drugs. FDA approval was HIGHLY controversial when it happened. Best case it shortens duration of fever by 8 hours compared to placebo.

Here's a Cochran Review that looked at 160,000 pages of data and raises doubts that oseltamivir and related drugs like zanamavir and piramivir do anything at all, if you all want to see the actual data.

Here's a shorter highly critical review of the approval process.

Looks like they are back to the flu. I guess Covid has lost steam with the people. I have not heard anything about the flu in a few years now.

The event that kicked off the Covid hysteria was when Rudy Whathisname (NBA player) was shut down because he had "tested positive" for Covid (he didn't seem sick at all, though). Then the NCAA started shutting down sporting events and it was off to the races with the Covid scam.

My guess is that the first fatalities will be Republicans and Christians, just like Covid.

I wasn’t saying it was a good thing just that they claim it “works”. I trust my body to fight infection. Plenty of sun, healthy weight, clean behavior …

I still wonder if ivermectin isn’t a better general viral inhibitor with some zinc.

I don’t know if ivermectin works. I don’t think it’s worth the trouble

This, bird flu, threats of violence - they’ll all be ‘trial-ballooned’ to see what people will allow to have them locked down and vote by ‘mail’ again, ensuring another Biden deficiency, er, presidency.

You mean with respect to antibiotics, not antivirals.
