House of Representatives passed a measure on Friday automatically registering men aged 18 to 26 for selective service.
It was part of the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which sets out the U.S. government’s military and national security priorities over the next fiscal year.
This year's NDAA authorizes $895.2 billion in military spending, a $9 billion increase from fiscal 2024.
While it hasn’t been invoked in over half a century, it’s mandatory for all male U.S. citizens to register for the selective service, also known as the military draft, when they turn 18. Failure to register is classified as a felony and comes with a host of legal challenges.

When the defining aspect of "conspiracy" is that there isn't evidence to support it, then I think it is legitimate to point out that it is destructive. In the early days of FR, you could have a useful discussion with intelligent dialogue. Nowadays, there are so many easily verifiable "facts" here that are just plain wrong that it beggars belief. It is about a bunch of angry people who want to play "victim of society" while they complain about others complaining about being victims of society. Just a few minutes ago, there was someone moaning about "straight, white, Christian men" being the victims of the draft. Clown world.

I don’t get it - doesn’t seem to change anything. Other than I guess that right now one needs to get the forms or whatever and register, where the new law would just register them automatically.
Hmm - I hope that the Democrats don’t get the idea to automatically register everyone 18 years and older to vote.
My kid 15 years from now: “So I went down to register to vote. Turns out I’m already registered! And I voted Democrat for the last 12 years!”

I thought it’s been the law for years now that when a young man reaches the age of 18, he has to register with Selective Service. Both my sons are in their 50’s, and had to register when they turned 18.
