Gunfire causes N.C. power outage raising fears of further attacks on electrical infrastructure

Authorities say gunfire was the cause of a fire Monday at a North Carolina power station that resulted in 730 customers to lose electricity.

Emergency crews responded to the problem as a fire and equipment failure on Duke Energy’s power distribution grid, which resulted in customers in the Durham area [losing power], according to the Associated Press.

The following day, the Durham Police Department responded to a call about damaged power equipment and was told the damage was the result of gunfire in the past week.

All of the above. Had a grid transformer shot out locally a couple of years back. They just modernized containment around the grid. You could still shoot it, but harder now from the road; you would actually have to approach the fence to shoot through it.

Hard to tell what happened based on this article, but it appears certain that a “power station” was not the thing that was affected. Sounds like an oil-cooled transformer, since the cause of the fire was a slow oil leak from a single bullet hole (presumably in the radiator).

Could be anything, including something as simple as one mook shooting at another and missing.

Shoot a hole in a transformer and the oil leaks out. Nitrogen pressure drops to zero, the transformer overheats and shuts itself down.

Millions of illegals include many thousands of terrorists and Chinese or Arab bad guys waiting to do something.

Power lines, sewer processing plants, water supplies, incoming food safety, cell towers, bridges, airports, freeway lanes subject to a few bombs.....
All are vulnerable.

Not to mention a dirty bomb in a wooden “container” delivered somewhere. Or in a parked semi or boat.

What would be the result of a bullet shot at a Lithium battery?
As in EV
Does the cell short out and start fire?

Actually, the oil is the insulating medium inside of the transformer as well as the coolant. Shooting a hole in the radiator will drain the oil, and the transformer will fault internally (short circuit, either one winding to another or a winding to ground) and should trip off line. But it could catch fire due to the arc igniting the oil.

As for the nitrogen, we always kept a very low positive pressure of nitrogen on the transformer. Not because of its electrical properties but because the transformer oil expands and contracts with heating and cooling. They get pretty warm with high current loads, and they cool off quite a bit when the load is low, particularly on a cool night. By keeping a positive Nitrogen pressure on the top of the oil in the tank, it prevents it from sucking in moist atmospheric air when it cools and the oil contracts.

Again, the nitro pressure is very low, 1-2 PSI, but enough that it prevents it from going negative and sucking in atmospheric air. Over time, atmospheric air can be corrosive or damaging. And these things are built to last 30-60 years. Nitrogen, being a “clean” inert gas is something of a protectant of exposed parts.

It is obvious the incoming migrants flow into the US and their distribution throughout the US is highly organized. Is it possible their activity once in the US is part of a plan?? Or am I just a conspiracy nut??

The vulnerable spot is the radiators used to cool the transformers. Some substations are installing bulletproof steel barriers around the radiators to protect them.

This is being done by organized Luddites, under the banner of “climate justice”. These are the same people who throw soup on artistic masterpieces and attack ancient artifacts.

Yup. All thanks to those (democrats) who refuse to protect our borders. Biden, Schumer, Nadler and the rest cannot blame the coming nationwide terrorist attacks on Trump. It’s going to be big, wide spread, and nasty. The resulting panic will bring us to our knees. Thank a Democrat.
