Local, state opposition to wind and solar projects increased in 2023, study finds

Opposition to wind and solar projects on the state and local level increased significantly last year, according to a new study by Columbia University’s Sabine Center for Climate Change Law.

In 2023, the report found 73% more local restrictions than the previous year’s report released in May 2023, and 111% more state-level restrictions.

“In nearly every state, local governments have enacted laws and regulations to block or restrict renewable energy facilities, or project opponents have succeeded in forcing the delay or cancellation of particular projects, or both have occurred,” the report states.

Many city and state leaders are on to the solar and wind power scam. Neither wind nor solar power can be stored in a sufficient amount to provide electricity to cities and towns. The "investment" is not worth it.

I'm sure at some point in the future technological discoveries will reach the point that alternate power can be stored for later use in sufficient amounts to be worth the financial investment. That time is not now and its use shouldn't be mandated.

The "investment" is not worth it.

It's plenty worth it if you are harvesting federal money.

Don't hold your breath. There's been heavy R&D investment in energy storage for five or more decades and nothing has materialized. Pumped hydro is the only feasible technology but the good sites are few and it's almost impossible to get those permitted.

For years, the hot new storage thing was Compressed Air Energy Storage ("CAES"). This requires a huge underground cavern to store compressed air so depends on the geological formations underground. But only two plants have been built.

My rural county allowed one solar farm to be built. It was a failure and a blight so they issued a moratorium on any future solar farms until a long-range study of environmental impact on surrounding farms could be completed. They have been tabling further discussion of the “study” for three years now. LOL!
