The Supreme Court issues opinions this morning at beginning 10:00 from cases from the October 2023 term.
After yesterday's opinions there are now twenty-seven cases remaining to be decided.
Of note is the Trump vs. U.S. immunity case, the Chevron deference cases(Relentless and Loper Bright), and the Fischer case regarding charges related to the January 6, 2021 protests.
There is also the Cargill case where at issue is whether a bump stock device is a “machinegun” as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(b). Another 2nd Amendment case is U.S. v. Rahimi where the question is whether 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(8), which prohibits the possession of firearms by persons subject to domestic-violence restraining orders, violates the Second Amendment on its face.
Another important case is Moore v. US, a case regarding taxation of unrealized gains.
There is also a couple of First Amendment cases, one Murthy v Missouri regarding government censorship and social media. The issues are whether respondents have Article III standing; (2) whether the government’s challenged conduct transformed private social media companies’ content-moderation decisions into state action and violated respondents’ First Amendment rights; and (3) whether the terms and breadth of the preliminary injunction are proper.
There is also an abortion case, Moyle v. U.S., and a EPA case in Ohio v. Environmental Protection Agency, so there are a lot of cases of importance to conservatives still awaiting decisions from the Court.
You can find a list of all the cases from this term at:
Attorneys from scotusblog will be in the press room at the Supreme Court and "live-blogging" the opinions of the court as they are released.

You may be right, but a little birdie tells me this will be much broader than some narrow ruling on process. It wouldn’t meet the moment. In light of the blatant abuse of the legal system in pursuit of political ends, SCOTUS may now seize the opportunity to remove courts out of the political arena as much as possible.
I agree.
The immunity decision will be out in the next couple of weeks. If it isn’t entirely to the liking of Rat Party Headquarters they will go absolutely ballistic!
Thanks for the thread and for your explanations.
No. They take a vote right after the case is heard and assignments are made.
Everything they do is in writing. The initial opinion is written and then those on the same side may not like the wording and may want to make a concurring opinion, but the main author may negotiate...everything is in writing - not to mention trying to get others to change their vote and join the other side.
There is a ton of back and forth and can take many months.
I knew a guy who was Rehnquist’s personal assistant, who kept track of the votes and everyone’s in/out basket and the status of each opinion and its progress.
He would occasionally tell me the day before when a major decision would be issued, but he never ever told me the vote on any case.
You’re welcome. I enjoy the intricacies of law and the opinions issued by the court. It’s always enjoyable to discuss the ins and outs of the rulings with others.
FYI, here is an article from Reason discussing the number of opinions issued by each Justice. Professor Adler’s numbers differ slightly from mine and has Roberts as issuing two opinions. Since my calculations were done quickly (literally on the back of a envelope), I’m sure his numbers are correct.

Professor Adler also notes the number of opinions issued by the liberal justices. As I said, we may not get anymore by Sotomayor since she has written 7 this term.
This paragraph is encouraging:
“Of the remaining cases, the lion’s share will be written by conservative justices. The liberal justices represent one-third of the Court, but have been responsible for 40 percent of the Court’s majority opinions thus far. I would not be surprised if liberal justices write no more than four or five of the remaining majorities.”
I know nothing about the law and find it very confusing, so I’m very happy to have found someone to follow that can tell me what it means. Do you have a ping list?
I’ll be thrilled if one of the conservative justices rights the majority opinion on presidential immunity. It’d be best if it was a real conservative, like Thomas or Alito.

I don’t have a ping list. But, just click on the SCOTUS keyword at the top of the home page and it will take you to the latest supreme court threads that I or anyone else has started. I always add SCOTUS as a keyword.
Lol! I'm still working shift work and I can't keep track!
ok, thx
This morning, SCOTUS added a second Opinion day to the calendar for this week. We will get opinions on Thursday AND Friday. I’ve made a note on my calendar to start threads on both days (I’ll try to not confuse Thursday and Friday this week).
I’ll ping you as well.
thx!
