Article Dig Deeper Former President Donald Trump endorsed former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan for the U.S. Senate on Thursday, despite Hogan urging voters to respect Trump's verdict in his New York hush money case.
Trump was convicted of 34 charges related to a hush money payment he made to former porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to appeal the verdict and his subsequent sentence. He will be sentenced on July 11.
The former president said that he was personally "about the party" and the country, and would like to see Hogan win the Senate seat in November. Hogan is running as a Republican, and was elected governor as a Republican. But he has faced pushback from party members over his stances on abortion.
“Yeah, I’d like to see him win. I think he has a good chance to win,” Trump told a Fox News reporter. “We gotta take the majority. We have to straighten out our country. So I’d like to see him win. He’s somebody that can win … I know other people made some strong statements, but I can just say from my standpoint, I’m about the party and I’m about the country."
Hogan, whose campaign later told the reporter he would not be supporting Trump, previously vowed that he would not vote for Trump in November and would vote for a third party candidate instead. Hogan previously endorsed Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination when she was still in the race.

Someone should keep track of how many people Trump endorsed that eventually vote to impeach him.
“Larry Hogan is too liberal for us and he is widely criticized on this site. But then the alternative is an idiot Democrat.”
There are some here that hope the GOP loses.
I don’t think he ever regretted it.
***SELF-CENSORED*** Comment...
I’m a Maryland FReeper. I’m honesty not sure what I’m going to do. Larry Hogan is a complete dirtbag. He did everything possible to trash those of us who voted him in as Governor.
I left the primary ballot blank. I’m truly conflicted.
On one hand, it would be slightly helpful to have a Republican senator, but on the other hand, he’s going to make Romney look like a MAGA patriot.
Trump lives in the real world
Way more than others.
He does big things in real life.
Snips from non-entities like Hogan are meaningless.
You have to fight with the army you have, not the army you want.
Larry can go to Hades as far as I’m concerned. He’s barely better than a democrat in that seat.
“or sit out”
There is a lot more of this going on than is reported. Michigan lost the state house and the state senate for the first time in decades during the “red wave” vote. This has been a trend for years now in the rural areas of this state and the country as it is becoming a standard as you can’t tell a republican from a democrat. It would suggest that the days of voting for the lesser of evils is over.
I’m not voting for my once more conservative Rep in congress either (Walberg-R) as he just voted for the $1.2 trillion budget, FISA extension for a decade, $200 billion for Ukraine etc. Never.
I’m a lifelong Marylander. I’ll vote for Hogan.
Politics isn’t an arena to ‘cut off your nose to spite your face’.
Yep.
Right now I think Trump has the priority right: that we need to win majorities. If we have the majorities we have the leadership of committees that could do some serious good to help Trump clean up the Deep State and Make America America Again.
I’m disgusted with my Congress-critters too. But I’d crawl over broken glass to vote from them because it’s my only way to put Jim Jordan, Clay Higgins, James Comer, and Barry Loudermilk in the positions they need to be in, to send criminal referrals to Trump’s AG to prosecute.
Right now the Deep State crooks who are spying and bribing everybody control all the votes pretty much. And it’s never gonna change until we get rid of the power of the Deep State. To do that we have to have the committee chairs, the President, and an AG with integrity. Trump is the POTUS we need. Kash Patel or Ken Paxton would be a great AG. And we need to bite the bullet and make sure we’ve got the committee chairs to complete the line-up for our team.
After that, elected officials can be accountable to their constituents, not to the Deep State that holds the bribery materials.
Some here would be thrilled with 30 house members and 10 senators thinking they hit the jackpot. Some clearly are clueless on how things work.
3 Supreme Court justices and a bunch of other judges.
Not much of an endorsement really.
So true.
LOL!
