Donald Trump on Thursday brought up the idea of imposing an “all tariff policy” that would ultimately enable the U.S. to get rid of the income tax, sources in a private meeting with the Republican presidential candidate told CNBC.
Trump, in the meeting with GOP lawmakers at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., also talked about using tariffs to leverage negotiating power over bad actors, according to another source in the room.
The remarks show Trump, who championed tariffs as a foreign policy multi-tool during his first term in office, is considering a drastically more protectionist trade agenda if he defeats President Joe Biden in November.

Goodbye IRS!
Sweet!
OH HELL YES.
(We’re dreaming, I know, but this country would boom like never before if we eliminated all of the inefficiencies and roadblocks and bottlenecks in our economy that are the direct result of having to plan around the income tax code.)
Can I vote for him yet?
Woohoo! The Constitutional solution!
The original plan.
Have we ever seen a proposition so ingenious—both practically and politically—in the entire history of our country?
Senate will be the problem...probably why he’s selling it there.
VERY good idea.
This exactly the right approach.
Enact this day one, Mr. President.
Trump 2024 🛺
That’s the way it used to be prior to the 16th amendment.
That amendment was the worst thing ever done to this country. It resulted in this bloated, corrupt monstrosity we call the government and the bureaucratic state (deep state).
It make the government the owner of whatever amount of money you make and they just decide how much of it they let you keep.
Repealing it is an admirable goal, but to achieve it the government would have to shrink to a 10th or less the size of what it is today. Fat chance of that happening.
The tax code is the single largest source of corruption in DC. But we would have to go Article V to take it out.
Don’t need the Senate...go straight to the states.
This is a great idea. The income tax is just as immoral as slavery - it robs one of the fruit of one’s labor. Trump will be as great as Lincoln for emancipating us from this evil.
The income tax is not about funding the feral government. The amount of income tax collected is completely dissociated from how much they spend.
The purpose the income tax is to punish the people who don’t vote for you and reward the people who do.
Just for warm-ups, let’s start with the 87,000 new IRS agents the GOPe sent us.
Yea.... this just might bring back our manufacturing base.
50-state landslide
Doesn’t the 16th confer an authority without requiring it be exercised? I’m not sure we’d need an amendment to stop collecting income taxes. I wouldn’t be opposed to getting rid of the 16th but we can defang it first.
love love love this!
First the income tax, then onto the Federal Reserve!
