A New Chinese Megaport in South America Is Rattling the U.S.

CHANCAY, Peru—In this serene town on South America’s Pacific coast, China is building a megaport that could challenge U.S. influence in a resource-rich region that Washington has long considered its backyard....

...The U.S. worries that China’s control over what could become South America’s first true global commercial hub will allow Beijing to further strengthen its grip over the region’s resources, deepen its influence among America’s closest neighbors and eventually plant its military nearby....

Peru’s Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea said...“The United States is present almost everywhere in the world with a lot of initiatives, but not so much in Latin America,” .... “It’s like a very important friend who spends little time with us.”

nothing in the article about the ongoing exclusivity dispute between China and Peru as construction continues. The deepwater port, which by Chinese policy must accommodate Chinese navy vessels, adds to China's control over Peru, with China having already secured interest in 100% of Lima's electric grid and major footholds in Peru's lithium and copper resources. In the meantime, the Biden admin continues to ignore the exponential growth of China's presence in South America.

We've known about the Darien Gap for hundreds of years and still haven't helped finance a major port on the Pacific coast of South America?

Was it the longshoremen's unions working out of San Diego, Long Beach, and San Pedro? Or some combination of government, big biz and unions?

Sheesh.

This is what happens when the White House is on China’s payroll.

I suspect that, like virtually all of the non-Western world, Peru prefers to NOT have Globohomo shoved down its throat, so, like most of the world now, they’re siding with China and Russia.

No surprise and it will only get worse until we JAIL the Americans pushing this crap.

I wonder if China has bought off US politicians to turn a blind eye to what they are doing around the world.

Another belt and road country.
China comes in and builds ports, roads and other infrastructure with a loan that the victim country cannot afford. Then China calls the loan in and owns those facilities and the land they are on. Peru is about to become another Chinese slave state.

China make money building ports, the USA makes money fomenting wars.

And it's not just the wars in the headlines. Africa is a big market for "defense" these days.
